Turkmenistan's economic development for seven months reviewed at the enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired an enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, during which the work done in the sectors of the national economy for seven months of the year was reviewed.

The Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers presented the reports. The hyakims of the regions, representatives of the Mejlis, rectors of higher educational institutions, editors of newspapers and journals and other high-ranking officials were invited to the meeting.

According to the macroeconomic indicators in January-June GDP made 108.7 per cent: the growth rate in the industrial sector made 104.4 per cent, the construction sector - 112.6 per cent, the transport and communication sectors - 111.9 per cent, the trade sector - 113 per cent, the agricultural sector - 112.2 per cent and the services sector - 112.1 per cent.

In January-July, the industrial production growth rate made 107.5 per cent as compared to the same period in 2014. For seven month of the year the volume of retail trade increased by 19.5 per cent as compared with the same period in 2014. An increase in foreign trade was observed in the reporting period.

The reporting period was also characterized by the successful implementation of the State budget. The revenue part of the basic financial plan was implemented at 102.4 per cent and the expenditures - at 90.1 per cent. The currency earnings from taxes rose 10.4 per cent as compared with the same period in 2014. All organisations received salaries, pensions, state benefits and scholarships in a timely manner.

The report on the progress in implementing the Oil and Gas Industry Development Programme of Turkmenistan for the period till 2030 and the work done in the fuel and energy sector for seven months of the year was presented. It was noted that the growth rate of production of oil and gas condensate made 107.8 per cent, drilling operations - 136.7 per cent and investments - 148.3 per cent.

Commenting on the reports, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave the instructions to diversify transit of natural gas fro Turkmenistan to foreign countries and establish new enterprises which would manufacture new products.

The Turkmen leader gave specific instructions on the preparations for the celebrations in honour of the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan and a working visit of the Turkmen delegation to New York (USA) to attend the 70th Anniversary Session of the UN General Assembly.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the State Programme for the promotion of natural and exact sciences in Turkmenistan and the Action Plan for the implementation of the State Programme and the Action Plan for the implementation of the State Programme for the Youth Policy of Turkmenistan for 2015-2020.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on the need for the regulation of vehicle traffic in the Avaza national tourism zone and gave specific instructions in this regard.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the document, authorizing the Ministry of Communications to conclude a contract for purchase and installation of communication equipment and instructed to take the necessary measures to enhance the capacity of local telephone networks.

According to the reports, 589 facilities in Ashgabat are currently under construction in accordance with the Resolutions of the President of Turkmenistan, including 232 buildings under construction at the request of the Ashgabat Hyakimlik.

In January-July, 24 facilities were put into operation in the capital, and it is planning to put 43 facilities into operation by the end of the year. Of these, 32 facilities are being built in the framework of the 13th construction stage project.

The report on the progress in implementing the agro-industrial investment programme and seasonal agricultural works was presented. It was noted that the preparation of ginneries and procurement stations for the upcoming cotton campaign continued, and agricultural fields were being ploughed in preparation for the wheat campaign.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Resolution on wheat production in Turkmenistan in 2016. In accordance with the document, 760,000 hectares are to be allocated for wheat fields and 1.6 million tonnes of grain are to be produced next year.

The President focused on the need to undertake urgent works on the implementation of the long-term national economic development strategy through applying state-of-the-art technologies and science and technology advances that did not depend on natural raw materials and was based on a highly-developed industry.

The Turkmen leader emphasized that our country was rich in non-metallic minerals, and these natural resources should be used to develop the building materials industry in the country.

The President appointed and dismissed the high-ranking officials during the meeting.

Noting that a meeting of the Elders' Council was to be held in the near future, the Turkmen leader focused on the need to develop the agenda of the national forum and prepare the proposals on certain issues and tasks to be fulfilled in 2016.

Other issues were discussed and the decisions were adopted during the enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
