The leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan discussed a wide range of aspects of interstate cooperation that successfully develops in bilateral and regional formats.
The sides exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.

The leaders noted that the positions of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan on the core issues of regional and global development processes coincided for the most part. First of all, our countries stand for the maintenance and strengthening of stability and security in Central Asia, prevention of conflicts, resolution of all existing problems by political diplomatic means, enhancement of mutual understanding and good neighbourliness and respect and consideration of multilateral interest.
A focus of discussion was the situation in Afghanistan. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan were unanimous in using exclusively peaceful political means and fostering a broad national dialogue to settle the situation in Afghanistan.
Emphasis was placed on the principled stand of the two friendly countries on such a crucial aspect of security as disarmament.
Particular attention was paid to water and energy problems in Central Asia.
Emphasis was placed on the existing tremendous potential to increase bilateral trade and investment, promote partnership between business communities of the two countries and expand business contacts between businessmen.
Cooperation between the two countries is in high demand in the strategic areas, including the power and transport sectors. In this context, great importance is attached to the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-China gas pipeline project.
The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the power plants under construction in Lebap and Mary Velayat would allow increasing electricity exports from Turkmenistan at least five times.
Emphasis was placed on the important role of the joint construction of new railways and highways.
Key priorities of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan include the spheres of science, culture and sports.
It was noted that relations between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan were developing steadily and being intensified. The Memorandum of Understanding on library activities between the National Library of the National Cultural Centre of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the National Library of Tajikistan, the Agreement on Cooperation between the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography of Turkmenistan and the Committee on Television and Broadcasting under the Government of Tajikistan, the Agreement on Cooperation in the health care sector between the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan and the Cooperation Programme between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan for 2016-2017 were signed in the presence of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
