President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held the one-on-one talks in Kabul. The talks took place in the framework of the official visit of the leader of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

In an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani discussed a wide range of aspects of Turkmen-Afghan cooperation, focusing on the implementation of bilateral agreements as well as ample opportunities for promotion of mutually beneficial contacts.

Highly evaluating Turkmen-Afghan relations, successfully developing in bilateral format as well as within the international organisations, the leaders of the two states emphasized the important role of interstate cooperation in the trade, economic, energy and transport sectors. In this regard great importance is attached to joint efforts towards the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project. The implementation of this ambitious project will have a positive impact on social and economic development of the participating countries as well as the region as a whole. An illustrative example of cooperation in the transport and communications sectors is the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway project.

Key priorities of Turkmen-Afghan partnership also include the power industry. As is known, electrical power produced in Turkmenistan is supplied on favourable terms to the northern regions of Afghanistan. With the completion of construction of infrastructure facilities, electrical power supplies will be increased.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the Turkmen people sincerely supported the fraternal Afghan people in their aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous life, emphasizing that our country would continue to provide full support to Afghanistan in its social, economic and cultural growth. Turkmenistan is going to build and equip a number of social facilities in the border provinces of the neighbouring state in the near future. In this context, the specific examples include a maternity hospital, put into operation in Turgundi village in Herat province earlier this month.

The leaders of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan discussed the progress in implementing bilateral agreements, key areas and development prospects of Turkmen-Afghan cooperation in mutual interests of the two neighbouring countries and peoples. Calling for the enhancement of Turkmen-Afghan trade and economic cooperation, the two leaders focused on the need to encourage traditional contacts in the humanitarian and cultural fields. Then the members of the official delegations of the two countries joined in the talks.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedo held a meeting with the representatives of Turkmen diaspora in Afghanistan.

The meeting took place in the conference hall of the Char Chinar Palace. The Turkmen leader dwelt upon the outcomes of the talks with IRA President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, noting that a wide range of aspects of bilateral cooperation had been discussed and key areas of partnership had been identified. The transport and power sectors had been specified as the promising areas of cooperation. Our country is seeking to implement its tremendous potential in these sectors for the benefit of all by putting forward a number of ambitious initiatives to develop transnational transport corridors, promote constructive regional and international energy cooperation and achieve global energy security.

In this context, an illustrative example of mutually beneficial partnership is the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway project. Its implementation will bring substantial profits to Afghan economy. The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project of an unprecedented scale is of crucial importance not only to the participating countries, but also the entire region.

Turkmenistan views the provision of humanitarian assistance to its southern neighbour as one of the essential aspects of the implementation of the policy of neutrality. For this purpose the programme of action, including construction of social facilities, the supply of humanitarian goods, etc., has been developed. With the view to achieve the objectives of this programme the construction a maternity hospital in the border village Turgundi in Herat province has been launched this year. Turkmenistan will provide all possible assistance in the electrification of border areas of Afghanistan.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited the representatives of Turkmen diaspora to take part in a regular meeting of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens and the celebrations, which will be held to mark the 24th anniversary of independence and the 20th anniversary of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat in October and December this year.

Then the meeting participants, including the high-ranking officials of government agencies, public figures and members of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens, took the floor.

They expressed profound gratitude on behalf of their compatriots to the President of Turkmenistan, President of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens for pursuing the progressive peaceful policy, which aims to achieve sustainable development of mankind, the welfare of the Turkmen people and the prosperity of the motherland.

Taking the opportunity, the meeting participants thanked the Turkmen leader for his attention and fatherly care for our compatriots residing abroad and his continued support and assistance in social and economic revival of Afghanistan.

After the meeting had concluded, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov headed to the Kabul International Airport and left for Ashgabat.
