President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony of the sturgeon farming plant of the Hazar Balyk Open Joint Stock Company, built in the administrative centre of Turkmenbashi Etrap.

The plant that specializes in rearing sturgeon and producing caviar and fish products is built at the request of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs by the Hazar Balyk Open Joint Stock Company, founded by the private companies Myradym, Gus toplumy and Rovana and the Halyf business entity.

The President cut the ribbon and entered the new industrial complex to the applause of those present.

State-of-the-art equipment from the world's top producers is installed at the industrial complex that occupies a total area of 6 hectares – one of the largest complexes in the region. It has the annual capacity to produce 100 tons of commercial fish of sturgeon species, 2 tons of sturgeon caviar, 170 tons of smoked and dried fish and other fish products and 10 million cans of canned fish. The plant created over 150 jobs in the region.

The production process represents the combination of artificial reproduction of sturgeon, using the from-spawn-to-spawn method, with fish processing. Thus, this industrial facility can be called a fish farm.

Artemia salina shrimps that serve as a valuable protein feed for juvenile fish are cultured at the new plant. By the way, the eggs brought to the industrial complex from European countries hatched into fingerlings half a month ago. Normally, fingerlings are raised in shallow concrete tanks and fed with fresh stream water. Today, their number exceeds 10,000.

The industrial complex specializes in raising Acipenser gueldenstaedtii that mainly lives in the basins of the Azov, Black and Caspian Seas.

The Turkmen leader talked to local specialists on the aquaculture methods and techniques and the conditions created for fish.

The method of the reproduction and pond rearing of sturgeons allows increasing the survival rate of larvae and juvenile fish by 10-15 per cent and enables farmed sturgeons to produce caviar every five years. Under natural conditions, this period lasts 7-8 years. It is particularly important that the use of modern biotechnology allows sturgeons to safely recover after their roe has been harvested and lay eggs the following year.

The processing capacity of the industrial plant significantly exceeds the volume of commercial fish to be raised. This is done to meet the projected expansion of the industrial complex as well as the production growth, since fish farmed in the inner water bodies of the country will be supplied for processing to the industrial complex.

State-of-the-art equipment will make it possible to produce dozens of tons of cold and smoked fish every year. The special technologies that allow preserving the tastiness and nutritional quality of fish products are used at the new sturgeon farming plant. Dried, salted, spiced and marinated fish products and sturgeon caviar will be produced and packed at the plant.

An exhibition, featuring a wide range of fish products manufactured at the newly built industrial complex and showcasing the tremendous potential of the private sector of Turkmen economy, was arranged for the Turkmen leader.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the office building of the Hazar Balyk Open Joint Stock Company, where the Turkmen leader wrote an entry to the Book of Guests of Honour.

Bidding farewell to the ceremony participants and wishing fish industry workers and Turkmen entrepreneurs every success in their work, the President left the ceremony venue.
