President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov flew in a helicopter to the construction site of the plant, which will produce gasoline from natural gas.
The high spec plant, located in Derveze Etrap of Ahal Velayat, is being built by the Turkmengaz State Concern in collaboration with the consortium of the Japanese and Turkish companies Kawasaki and Ronesans Holding. The industrial facility, equipped with the latest technologies from the well-known Danish company Haldor Topsoe, will have the capacity to convert 1.782 billion cubic metres of natural gas into 600,000 tons of A-92 gasoline in compliance with the Euro-5 standard.
The plant will be the world’s first gas chemical complex which will produce high-quality environmentally friendly gasoline from natural gas. It is to be put into operation in 2018 and create about 800 new jobs in the region.
The President approved the location of the plant, which will produce liquid fuel from natural gas, noting that the establishment of this kind of enterprises would contribute to diversifying the fuel and energy sector, developing the gas chemical industry and achieving the objectives of increasing production of high quality gas products as well as their share in exports to world markets. The new plant will have the capacity to process 3.5 billion cubic metres of ‘blue fuel’ per year.
