Cabinet of Ministers reviews Turkmenistan’s economic development in January-September

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired an enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, during which the work done in the sectors of the national economy in January-September and a number of important issues of the domestic policy were discussed.

The Turkmen leader presented the agenda of the meeting, during which representatives of Mejlis, velayat hyakims, rectors of higher educational institutions, editors of newspapers and journals and other high-ranking officials were present, and gave the floor to the meeting participants.

The Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers presented the reports on Turkmenistan’s economic development in January-September. Macroeconomic indicators in the reporting period illustrated the steady development of all the sectors of national economy.

The GDP growth rate was maintained at a high level. The growth rate made 103.5 per cent in the industrial sector, 112.6 per cent in the construction sector, 111.9 per cent in the transport and communications sectors, 112.5 per cent in the trade sector, 112.3 per cent in the agricultural sectors and 111.8 per cent in the services sector.

The volume of retail trade for the nine months of the year increased by 19.2 per cent as compared with the same period in 2014. Positive dynamics of foreign trade was observed in the reporting period. Investments from all sources of financing were used in full.

In January-September, the production growth rate of electricity increased to 102.5 per cent, oil - 106.7 per cent, gasoline - 101 per cent, kerosene - 100.2 per cent, oil bitumen - 122.9 per cent, polypropylene - 100.1 per cent, fertilizers - 2 times, cement - 105.5 per cent, non-metallic building materials - 123.8 per cent, plastic and fiberglass pipes - 103.4 per cent, cotton - 101.1 per cent, cotton fabrics -107.5 per cent, fish products - 160.6 per cent, mineral water and soft drinks - 112.3 per cent, macaroni - 112.4 per cent and pharmaceutical products - 142 per cent as compared with the same period in 2014.

The agricultural output growth was observed in the reporting period. To date, the winter crops sowing target of 69.7 per cent had been achieved. As of October 2, 544,900 tons of cotton were harvested. The target of 51.9 percent for this index was achieved.

In January-September, the index for the performance of construction works rose by 14.2 percent as compared with the same period in 2014.

In January-September, the growth rate of freight transportation by all types of transport, excluding pipelines, made 101.6 per cent and passenger transportation - 102.6 per cent. Through the systematic expansion of the network of electronic communications services the production index in this sphere rose by 9.1 percent as compared with the same period in 2014.

In January-September, the revenues of the State budget achieved the target of 105.9 per cent, the expenditures – that of 85.8 per cent. The revenues of the local budget achieved the target of 101.7 percent and the expenditures - that of 81.8 per cent.

Salaries, pensions, state allowances and scholarships were paid off in full and in a timely manner.

The report on the preparations for a visit of the governmental delegation of Turkmenistan led by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Uzbekistan scheduled for October 7-8 was presented. Turkmen-Uzbek top-level talks will take place during the visit.

The film about a number of social, cultural and industrial facilities to be put into operation within the next few weeks was demonstrated during the meeting. These include the large industrial facilities at Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries, the desalination plants in Turkmenbashi Etrap in Balkan Velayat, a housing estate on Ankara Street in Ashgabat, numerous residential, administrative, social and cultural facilities, built in the framework of 13th construction stage projects, Magtymguly Fraghi Museum and the complex of cultural monuments in Magtymguly Etrap of Balkan Velayat, among others. Cultural and art workers had prepared large scale festive programmes to mark the building premiers.

The report on the programme of events, which will be held in Mary, marking its status of the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2015, was presented. The closing conference on the outcomes of the events in Mary, marking its status of the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2015 will take place on November 26-28. The XXXIII Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of Turkic Speaking Countries of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) and a concert of cultural and art workers, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan, will be held in the administrative centre of Mary Velayat on those days.

The President of Turkmenistan signed the Resolution authorizing to rename Alp Arslan National Youth Theatre into Alp Arslan Turkmen National Drama Theatre of Turkmenistan.
