President of Turkmenistan meets US Secretary of State

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with United States Secretary of State John Forbes Kerry, who visited our country on a working visit. The meeting took place in the Ak Altyn Hall of the Ambassador Reception Palace at the Oguzhan Presidential Palace complex.

The President of Turkmenistan and the United States Secretary of State exchanged views on the current state and prospects of Turkmen-American cooperation which had the profound versatile potential. In this regard, emphasis was placed on the importance of further strengthening the traditional intergovernmental political dialogue as a key factor contributing to fruitful cooperation.

As for Turkmen-American trade and economic partnership, the rich experience of working together has been accumulated and ample opportunities to establish closer contacts in various spheres exist. The Turkmenistan-US Business Council aims its work at diversification and intensification of bilateral cooperation and stimulation of investment activity and assists in organizing business forums that have proved to be an effective mechanism for promoting mutually beneficial relations.

The strategy of large-scale social and economic reforms pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the on-going major infrastructure projects and the policy of integration into the world economy – all these contribute to the willingness of major foreign, including American, companies to actively cooperate with our country. The promising areas for Turkmen-American partnership also include the energy, transport, communications, high-tech, industrial and agricultural sectors, among others.

Noting that the humanitarian sphere is an essential component of bilateral relations, the Turkmen leader and his high-ranking guest underscored the importance of fruitful bilateral relations in the spheres of science, education and culture. In this context, the President of Turkmenistan and the United States Secretary of State called for the promotion of the traditional practice of joint activities, such as the days of culture and other art and educational actions aimed at strengthening the ties of friendship and mutual understanding between the two peoples. In addition, good prospects for Turkmen-US cooperation exist in the spheres of health care, sports and tourism.

The President of Turkmenistan and the United States Secretary of State exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international politics, confirming the readiness of the two states to further concert efforts to ensure global peace and security and respond to modern challenges and threats. In this context, emphasis was placed of the crucial role of the peaceful constructive policy of neutral Turkmenistan as an important factor in consolidating stability and facilitating sustainable development in Central Asia. Emphasis was also placed on the significant contribution our country was making to the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and social and economic recovery of the neighbouring state, as illustrated by the concrete infrastructure projects and humanitarian assistance provided to the Afghan people on a regular basis.

In conclusion, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and United States Secretary of State John Forbes Kerry expressed belief that the traditional dialogue of friendship and constructive cooperation between the two countries, based on the continued mutual goodwill of the sides, would continue to develop dynamically and be filled with new content.

US Secretary of State John Forbes Kerry headed from the Presidential Oguzhan Palace Complex for the Ashgabat International Airport and then left the capital of Turkmenistan.
