President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in the People’s Republic of China on a visit, had a meeting with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping in Beijing.
The top-level bilateral meeting took place in the Small Eastern Hall of the Great Hall of the People. The delegations of the two countries participated in the meeting.
The leaders of Turkmenistan and the People’s Republic of China emphasized the traditionally high level of interstate relations, based on the solid regulatory and legal framework, including the big package of documents created over their history.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Xi Jinping paid particular attention to the progress in implementing bilateral agreements and specified key areas of cooperation for the short and long terms.
The fuel and energy sector with the successful implementation of the 21st-century project – Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline standing as a landmark of mutually beneficial long-term partnership is a strategic area of Turkmen-Chinese cooperation. The gas pipeline ensures long-term supplies of ‘blue fuel’ from Turkmenistan to China. The on-going production infrastructure modernization and expansion programmes in aimed at orienting Turkmenistan’s fuel and energy sector to the production of competitive finished products open up ample opportunities for collaboration in the gas and oil processing sectors.
Turkmenistan views China in the transit transport sector as a very important partner in the Asia-Pacific region, as this sector is a key area in the foreign policy of the two countries. Together with its partners, our country is creating a large-scale combined transit transport and logistics infrastructure that links Asia and Europe. In the future, this infrastructure will include the transport corridors that have outlets to the Caspian and Black Seas and the Baltic states. As a result, a convenient land route from the Asia-Pacific region through Central Asia to the markets in Europe and the Middle East will be created. The Turkmen leader invited Chinese businessmen to explore the opportunities of using the territory of our country as an important section on the strategic east-west and south-north transportation routes.
A significant role in the dynamic development of bilateral partnership and the implementation of agreements is assigned to Turkmenistan-China Committee and its subcommittees.
The representative office of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan was opened in Beijing in October this year, which testifies to the intensification of business contacts between the two countries.
Bilateral relations in the spheres of culture and education have been developing dynamically in recent years. Hundreds of young people from Turkmenistan receive higher education in China.
Various events, including festivals, science conferences, seminars, tourism exhibitions and sports competitions, are held on a regular basis in the two countries.
Fruitful Turkmen-Chinese contacts have been established in the sports sector. Turkmenistan is interested in studying the successful experience of Chinese partners in promoting the sports movement, staging prestigious international sports competitions, including in the context of the active preparations for the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which Ashgabat will be hosting in 2017
The sides also exchanged views on a number of topical issues of regional and international politics of mutual interest.
The leaders of the two countries confirmed that Turkmenistan and China were ready to strengthen and enhance effective cooperation in bi- and multi-lateral formats, within the authoritative international and regional organisations and structures.
Taking the opportunity, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President Xi Jinping to attend the International High-Level Conference and the celebrations, marking the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan, which will be held in Ashgabat in December.
