The special meeting of the Elders Council dedicated to the upcoming holiday – the 20th anniversary of neutrality of our country, was held under the chairmanship of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat. The ceremony of presenting the state awards to citizens of Turkmenistan in honour of the remarkable date took place in the framework of the forum.
Delegates from all the regions of the country, including the elders, heads and deputies of Mejlis, cabinet ministers, hyakims of velayats, towns and etraps, specialists of various industries, scientists and cultural workers and representatives of major public organisations gathered together at the Ruhiyet Palace. The heads of diplomatic missions, representative offices and international organisations and media representatives accredited to the country were invited to attend the forum.
Addressing the forum, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that in accordance with ancient customs and practices, it had become a tradition in our country to discuss with the elders key aspects and main issues of the state policy and take their recommendations into account when adopting important decisions. In his speech at the meeting of the Elders Council the President of Turkmenistan highlighted the progress the Turkmen state had made in the international arena over the past 20 years, the initiatives and key aspects of the peaceful foreign policy. The achievements in various spheres of life of the Turkmen state and the development prospects of the country were reviewed.
Addressing the forum, Chairperson of Mejlis A. Nurberdyeva focused on the importance of the international initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan. An unprecedented event was the adoption of the second Resolution on permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly on June 3, 2015. All this had laid the groundwork for the high international prestige of the country and its leader. In this regard, taking the petitions and proposals of citizens of our country into consideration, Mejlis of Turkmenistan had issued the Resolution on the awarding of the anniversary medal Garassyz, Baky Bitarap Turkmenistan to the President of Turkmenistan. The Chairperson of the Parliament read out the Resolution.
The anniversary medal was presented to the leader of Turkmenistan to a huge round of applause of those present.
The President expressed his heartfelt gratitude to deputies of Mejlis of Turkmenistan, all the participants in the meeting. The philosophy of neutrality defines the basic vector of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan. The Turkmen leader continued that this status was the wide road for a prosperous and peaceful life of citizens of Turkmenistan, mutually beneficial and friendly relations with different countries and peoples, good neighbourly relations with the countries of the region.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that large-scale work had been done to strengthen independence, sovereignty and neutrality of Turkmenistan, enhance the international prestige. The progress has been made in enhancing the economic strength of the motherland, improving defence capabilities and maintaining the rule of law and order. Before the ceremony of presenting the state awards to those who had made a significant contribution to the achievements of the independent state with their selfless and hard work, the Turkmen leader emphasized that every citizen of our country had contributed to the progress.
Deputy Chairperson of the Cabinet of Minister M. Yazmuhammedova read out the Decrees on the awarding of the anniversary medal Garassyz, Baky Bitarap Turkmenistan to citizens of our country and foreign states.
In a solemn ceremony the President of Turkmenistan presented the state awards to citizens of Turkmenistan. They were given this honour for their selfless work for the benefit of the motherland.
Receiving the state awards, citizens of our country expressed their deepest gratitude to the leader of the Turkmen state for his appreciation of their work and his unceasing concern for the prosperity of the motherland and the wellbeing of the people and the foreign policy strategy.
Those who received the state awards included Deputy Chairman of the Elders Council R. Gelliev. On behalf of the elders of the country he congratulated the participants in the meeting on the upcoming 20th anniversary of neutrality. R. Gelliev noted that the elders fully supported the wise policy of the national leader, spared no effort to put the noble initiatives into practice, took an active part in the life of the state and society and brought up the generation of patriotic and diligent young people.
Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations A. Ataeva, who received the anniversary medal Garassyz, Baky Bitarap Turkmenistan, said that the initiatives put forward by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the benefit of Turkmenistan and all the peoples of the world from the rostrum of the Community of Nations, were supported in the international arena.
In particular, the constructive proposals of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for energy security, transport and environment cooperation and collaboration in other strategic areas drew a worldwide response and provided an effective platform for partnerships. A. Ataeva emphasized that the implementation of these initiatives was a foreground task set to Turkmen diplomats.
The Turkmen leader presented the anniversary medal Garassyz, Baky Bitarap Turkmenistan to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Turkmenistan Hassan Abdullah Al Adab for his fruitful work for promoting cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates and strengthening the ties of friendship between the two countries.
The diplomat said that he considered the anniversary medal a sign of sincere respect for his country and its leadership, trustful relations between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Noting that our country had gained the outstanding achievements under the leadership of the Turkmen leader in internal development as well as on regional and international scale, the UAE Ambassador said that this was evidenced by the high-level conference on the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan, which will take place with the participation of delegations from many countries in Ashgabat on December 12.
