The talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, took place at the bilateral meetings hall in the building of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the high level of the Turkmen-Russian dialogue. The leader of the Turkmen state underlined that during a meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Tehran, the Islamic Republic of Iran in the framework of the Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), it was noted that Turkmenistan and the largest sub-federal units in the Russian Federation, in particular the Republic of Tatarstan, Astrakhan and Sverdlovsk districts, St. Petersburg and other regions had established close cooperation in various spheres. Taking the opportunity, the leader of the Turkmen state conveyed the best wishes and expressed gratitude to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev for providing support in promoting cooperation with the regions in the Russian Federation.
The leader of the Turkmen state spotlighted the fruitful character of the bilateral cooperation based on old historical relations, cultural and spiritual commonality of the two friendly peoples that had successfully developed within the framework of the interstate dialogue with the Russian Federation.
Speaking about the trade and economic partnership, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the two states had great potential to increase the trade turnover. It was also noted that in compliance with bilateral agreements, Turkmenistan and Russia successfully developed cooperation in the sphere of energy and transport sector as well as a number of other areas.
Expressing gratitude to the leader of the Turkmen state for the hospitable welcome, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and all people of Turkmenistan on the 20th anniversary of neutrality of the Turkmen state.
President Rustam Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan considered Turkmenistan as a very promising partner and underlined that the peoples of our countries had common cultural and linguistic community and historical traditions.
The energy sector, trade and economy, agriculture, tourism were specified among the priority areas of cooperation. Speaking about the importance of strengthening productive relations in the field of mechanical engineering, energy and industrial complex, the President of Turkmenistan and the distinguished guest called for the necessity to use available resources more efficiently. Particular attention was paid to widening the export of Turkmen products to Tatarstan as well as the import of equipment produced in Tatarstan to our country.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the humanitarian sphere between the scientific, educational and training centres in the two countries. The sides called for widening traditional relations in the sphere of culture.
The sphere of sports was also identified as an important area of bilateral relations in the context of the preparations for the 2017 Asian Games.
Upon completion of the programme of the working visit, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan headed to the Ashgabat International airport and left the Turkmen capital.
