President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired an enlarged meeting with the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, members of the State Security Council, deputies of Mejlis, ambassadors of Turkmenistan in foreign countries and heads of public organisations.
Presenting the agenda of the meeting, the President noted that it covered the issues related to the organisation and coordination of the international events of historical importance in the life of our society and state, which would take place in a few days.
Noting that the special meeting of the Elders Council, marking the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan, had been held recently, the Turkmen leader said that the outcomes of foreign policy activities of the Turkmen state over the past years were reviewed at the meeting.
Heads of foreign states, renowned politicians will arrive in our country in a few days to participate in the Neutrality Day celebrations and widely celebrate the glorious 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan together with the Turkmen people.
Another important event– the ground-breaking ceremony of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline – will take place in our country on December 13. The Day of Oil and Gas Industry Workers and Geologists will be celebrated solemnly on December 14. The Turkmen leader noted that the day of December 14 went down in history as the day of putting Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline into operation.
Describing the origins and prerequisites for the choice of the neutral model of foreign policy strategy in his speech, the Turkmen leader emphasized that we had been guided primarily by the national interests of our country. The young Turkmen state sought to cooperate with neighbouring countries and maintain peaceful relations. Our goal was to maintain friendly and equal relationships with all countries of the world, to promote mutually beneficial economic and trade contacts.
The Turkmen leader noted that all the projects implemented and to be implemented with the participation of Turkmenistan pursued no geopolitical views and goals. These projects are of purely economic and commercial interests to all the countries, the territory of which these pipelines run across. This is the basic view of our neutral state that has the noble aims.
Turkmenistan is committed to the concrete and fundamental principles that arise from its international legal status of a neutral state. In this context, our country is taking the necessary steps to shape its long-term foreign policy strategy.

A music show, involving cultural and art workers, will be held on the square in front of the Alem cultural and entertainment centre on December 12.
The programme of the festivities, held in our country and abroad, includes book fairs and exhibitions, organized by Turkmen State Publishing Service. The guidebook and the map of Ashgabat for the guests to our country were published to mark the 20th anniversary of neutrality.
