Underlining the high international importance of the neutral status as one of the fundamental principles in strengthening peace, security and development, Turkmenistan puts forward the initiative to establish the Day of Neutrality within the framework of the United Nations Organisation. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov put forward this initiative speaking at the International conference “Policy of neutrality: international cooperation in the name of peace, security and development” held in Ashgabat.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also emphasized the significance of the goal-oriented and systematic work on the further improvement of the scientific and theoretical foundations and practices of using the principle of neutrality in the international activity. In this regard, it was noted that Turkmenistan put forward the initiative to create the International Centre on studying the problems of neutrality in the international law and international relations.

Heads and high-ranking representatives of a number of countries and international organisations participated in the forum dedicated to the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan.
