Today, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Organization for political affairs Jeffrey Feltman, who arrived in Ashgabat for participation in the high-level International Conference “Policy of neutrality: the international cooperation for the sake of peace, safety and development”.
Highly appreciating an active position of Turkmenistan, which offered within the last years with a number of actual international initiatives, Mr. Jeffrey Feltman has underlined huge significance of the present representative forum, which results will work, undoubtedly, for strengthening and all-round expansion of multilateral cooperation for the sake of universal peace and progress.
In this connection, the deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Organization has expressed an urgency of the initiative put forward by the President of Turkmenistan at the current Conference on consideration at Community of the Nations of the issue on creation of the International Centre on study of problems of neutrality in international law and international relations as well as about announcement of the International Neutrality Day within the framework of the United Nations. Sharing opinion of the Turkmen leader that the phenomenon of a positive neutrality needs further development, Mr. Jeffrey Feltman has noticed that in the context of present world processes and necessity of search of ways of solution of arising global problems of the present, it would be quite essential the offered joint work on further perfection of scientific-theoretical foundations and practice of application of neutrality principle in the international activity.
