Thanking for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the diplomat expressed the New Year wishes to the Turkmen leader and conveyed the heartfelt greetings of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani, who expressed the wishes for the wellbeing and prosperity to the Turkmen people. Emphasizing that Iran attached great importance to promoting multifaceted relations with neighbouring Turkmenistan, the Ambassador expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Turkmen leader for providing full support to the IRI Embassy in our country that he had been feeling in his work all these years.

Reaffirming the continued commitment of Turkmenistan to relations of friendship and fruitful cooperation with Iran, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized with satisfaction that Turkmen-Iranian relations were successfully developing in bi- and multi-lateral formats, within the authoritative regional and international organisations, as vividly evidenced by regular top-level meetings and talks.

Expressing his best wishes to President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani, the Turkmen leader focused on the effectiveness of the Turkmen-Iranian top-level meetings, which took place in Ashgabat and Tehran last year and resulted in reaching the important agreements that had given a new impetus to build up international partnership with the tremendous potential and favourable prospects.

The President of Turkmenistan and the Iranian diplomat exchanged views on key aspects of bilateral cooperation built on a mutually beneficial and long-term basis. This is vividly evidenced by the growth in trade between the two countries and the successful implementation of joint projects that have enriched the practice of cooperation in various areas.

Together with the trade and economic and the oil and gas sectors, the promising fields of partnership include the transport sector, where Turkmenistan has put forward a number of constructive initiatives to develop regional and international transport and communications infrastructure. An illustrative example of effective concerted efforts in this sector is Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway designed to be an important link of the North-South transnational transport corridor.

The Turkmen leader and the Iranian diplomat noted with satisfaction that cultural relations that had the fertile soil of centuries-old historical and spiritual affinities between the two neighbouring nations to expand were dynamically developing. Joint cultural events and science forums dedicated to outstanding historical figures and the legacy of scholars and poets provide splendid opportunities to strengthen the ties of friendship at the present stage.

In this regard, the Iranian diplomat highly evaluated the large-scale events which took place on the initiative of the Turkmen leader at the international level in 2014 to mark the 290th birth anniversary of Magtymguly Fraghi, whose creative work is revered deeply in Iran. It was emphasized that the celebrations in honour of the great poet and philosopher had significantly enriched the knowledge of people around the world about the personality and creative work of Magtymguly and contributed to the popularization of his invaluable literary legacy imbued with the ideas of humanism that had become an integral part of the spiritual treasury of mankind.

Particular attention was paid to the intensification of relations in the sport sector in the context of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which would be held in Ashgabat in 2017. In conclusion, the President of Turkmenistan thanked the Iranian diplomat for his significant contribution to the intergovernmental dialogue and wished him every success in his future work.
