President of Turkmenistan reviews new projects of sports facilities in Avaza

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left the airport in the capital city for Turkmenbashi town. The Turkmen leader arrived in the Avaza national tourism zone to spend a short term holiday and see the progress in implementing the construction projects in the rapidly developing seaside resort on the picturesque Caspian seashore.

The President drove to the Avaza multi-sports centre. The Chairperson of Mejlis and the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers cordially greeted the leader of Turkmenistan there.

The Turkmen leader greeted those presented and entered the lobby of the multi-sports centre where the models and the stands with the draft designs of various facilities under construction in the Avaza national tourism zone that expands its horizons with each passing year ad transforms the Turkmen shore of the Caspian Sea into a modern resort with innovative infrastructure, were installed.

The Turkmen leader reviewed the project of a multi-sports centre. The sports facility is being built at the request of the Ministry of Industry by the Myradym private construction company – a member of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. The multi-sports centre is composed of seven buildings. The first building is indented for sport games, including basketball, table tennis, tennis, gymnastics, handball and volleyball. The second building designed for 2,000 spectators will house the swimming pools 20x25 metres and 25x50 metres in size, the swimming pool with a diving board, exercise hall, bowling hall, sauna, cafe, massage therapy rooms, etc.

The third building is indented for fitness activities, weightlifting, fencing, boxing, taekwondo, judo, sambo, freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling and other martial arts. The multi-sports centre will include the two-storey building of the Ice Palace with several ice arenas for hockey, curling and figure skating. There will be several cafes, VIP hall, stands for 2,500 spectators, sauna and wellness rooms for athletes at the Ice Palace. Three buildings of the multi-sports centre will house the offices for administrative staff, 150-seated conference hall supplied with equipment necessary for the work of journalists and canteen. There will be outdoor basketball and volleyball courts, mini football field and swimming pool on the territory adjacent to the multi-sports centre.

The large multi-sports centre will be host sporting competitions at any level as well as serve as a training centre for Turkmen athletes, offering athletes and national teams favourable conditions to prepare for the world and Asian championships and the Olympic Games.

During the presentation a famous fitness expert Bert Rauschenbach from Germany told the Turkmen leader about the technical features and functional characteristics of fitness and gym equipment that the sports centre would be equipped with.

The President reviewed the projects and draft interior and exterior designs of a health promotion and recreation centre that would be built by Polimeks in Avaza. A representative of the Turkish company – one of the long-standing partners of our country in the building industry, informed the President about the project of a health promotion and recreation centre developed by Turkish specialists.

After thoroughly reviewing the projects presented for consideration, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov dwelt upon the interior and exterior designs of buildings and facilities, emphasizing that each facility should combine the latest building and design solutions and blend well with the landscape on the Caspian seashore and meet environmental requirements.

Providing some comments and recommendations on the projects, the Turkmen leader said that they should create the most favourable conditions for athletes as well as those fond of physical activities arriving in Avaza.

Paying unflagging attention to supporting and promoting sports, Turkmenistan also seeks to contribute to the international sports movement. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which would take place in Ashgabat in 2017, were to achieve these goals.

Underlining that the 2017 Asian Games would contribute to enhancing the prestige of Turkmenistan in the world sports arena, the President instructed to carry out this work on a more systematic basis and make it more effective and demanded that all measures taken to modernize and promote the sports sector be kept under strict control.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov did physical exercises using fitness and gym equipment in one of the gyms at the Avaza multi-sports centre. The Turkmen leader demonstrated once again the excellence in physical fitness – a result of regular physical and sports activities that the Turkmen leader paid great attention to. Together with the Turkmen leader the Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers did physical exercises in the gym.

Together with his associates the President visited a phytotherapy bar and tasted herbal teas. As is known, the methods of herbal medicine that is very popular all over the world are described in detail in the fundamental scientific paper Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan by President of Turkmenistan, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Doctor of Medicine Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The Turkmen leader wished once again all those present good health and every success and left the sports centre.

As is known, the Turkmen leader, who initiated the creation of the first national tourism zone in the country, is regularly monitoring the implementation of the ambitious investment project. Large-scale work on the development of infrastructure in line with international standards has changed this picturesque region of the Turkmen land beyond recognition. Avaza is a favourite place of recreation for citizens of Turkmenistan, and foreign visitors to our country have appreciated its undeniable merits. In addition, Avaza gained the status of a major business, cultural and sports centre as well as a venue for summits, international conferences, festivals and sporting events.
