The two countries that pursue the peaceful foreign policy cooperate effectively in the international arena, taking an active part in addressing the pressing issues of our time.

Turkmenistan and Russia that neighbour with each other in the Caspian region stand as strategic partners in the efforts to find the most appropriate solutions to the Caspian Sea related problems as vividly illustrated by the 43rd session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea at the level of deputy foreign ministers of the Caspian states, taking place in Ashgabat these days. The two countries also have similar views on the need to solve the problems in the Central Asian region through political diplomatic means, in particular the situation in Afghanistan that Turkmenistan and Russia have been supporting in the economic recovery for all these years.

Touching upon the aspects of bilateral relations, the Turkmen leader and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia noted that the two friendly countries aimed to diversify mutually beneficial cooperation in a number of key areas and discussed in detail the progress in implementing the agreements, including those reached by the leaders of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation during their meeting at the Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Tehran in November last year.

It was noted that Turkmenistan and Russia, guided by common social and economic development objectives and priorities, had built the strong legal framework for bilateral relations that laid the reliable groundwork for effective cooperation. Noting that the developing areas of Turkmen-Russian partnership include the trade and economic sector, machine building, transport, communications, agriculture and many other areas, the Turkmen leader and his guest were unanimous that this tendency should be maintained.
