President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and IRI Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari discuss prospects of Turkmen-Iranian cooperation

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Vice President for Executive Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Shariatmadari, who arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan to participate in the XII specialized exhibition of Iran, leading a high-ranking delegation of his country.

Expressing sincere gratitude for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the guest conveyed the cordial greetings from President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani and Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who expressed the wishes for wellbeing and prosperity to the Turkmen people. It was emphasized that Iran attached great importance to strengthening traditionally friendly relations with Turkmenistan that was moving resolutely under the leadership of the national leader on the path of creation and progress. The guest expressed sincere admiration for the beauty of white-marble Ashgabat.

Greeting Mohammad Shariatmadari and expressing best wishes to the President and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted with satisfaction the dynamic development of the interstate dialogue that is cemented with the unbreakable ties of friendship and good neighbourliness and filled with new content with every passing year. Emphasizing that pursuing the foreign policy based on the status of permanent neutrality, Turkmenistan pays special attention to promoting fruitful relations with neighbouring countries, including Iran, the Turkmen leader noted that there was the profound potential based on the successful experience of long-term cooperation in various sectors to expand effective bilateral partnership.

Exchanging views on the prospects of Turkmen-Iranian cooperation in the trade and economic sectors, the Turkmen leader and his guest confirmed the willingness of the two countries to facilitate intensification of fruitful business contacts, increase progressive bilateral trade and stimulate investment activity. In this regard, emphasis was placed on the importance of the annual specialized exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ashgabat and regular business forums. A key role is also assigned to the Joint Turkmenistan-Iran Commission for economic cooperation as an effective mechanism for deepening and diversifying mutually advantageous bilateral relations.

Taking the opportunity, the IRI Vice President for Executive Affairs expressed profound gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for creating conditions conducive to organizing and holding the exhibition that showcased products, developments and potential of the leading companies and industrial centres of Iran.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan, having stood on the path of industrialization and fundamental social and economic reforms, sought to widely adopt the latest technology and advances in science and technology, which opened up new opportunities for effective interaction with Iranian partners.

The key areas of interstate cooperation also include the power and transport sectors, where our country, as is known, has put forward a number of important international initiatives. One of the most illustrative examples of successful concerted efforts is the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, put into operation in December 2014 and designed to facilitate the optimization of traffic flows on the Eurasian continent.

The Turkmen leader and his guest also noted the importance of strengthening fruitful bilateral humanitarian contacts.

In conclusion, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vice President for Executive Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Shariatmadari expressed belief that interstate cooperation would continue to develop successfully.
