President of Turkmenistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan General of the Army Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a meeting of the State Security Council, during which the work done by the military and law enforcement agencies in January-February was reviewed and the measures to be taken to strengthen the foundations of peace and stability and ensure the rule of law and law and order in accordance with the new Military Doctrine of Turkmenistan were discussed.

Noting that the national army and the law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in ensuring the peaceful and constructive life of the people of Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the state would continue to pay close attention to strengthening defence capability of the country through the modernization of the material and technical base and the improvement of combat skills and theoretical knowledge of the defenders of the Fatherland.
This is the aim of the recently adopted Military Doctrine that specifies the functions of the law enforcement agencies in line with the commitment of our country to the policy of friendship and good neighbourhood that stands as a crucial factor for the welfare of the Turkmen people and the peoples of the region.
Chief of the Border Guard Service M. Yslamov reported on the work done since the beginning of the year to defend and ensure the inviolability of the state border of the Motherland.

The President appointed major-general B. Gundogdyev Chief of the Border Guard Service, Commander of Border Forces and released him from the post of the Commander of the Naval Forces garrison. Colonel B. Annaev was appointed to this post.
Prosecutor General A. Hallyev reported on the fulfilment of the Turkmen leader’s instructions. Focusing on the importance of the work of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces underscored the need to strictly monitor the observance of national laws at all levels and conduct a thorough inspection of the activities of all institutions, regardless of the pattern of ownership, taking the most responsible approach to each case.
Minister of National Security Lieutenant-General G. Hojaberdiev reported on the work done in January-February and the measures taken to ensure national security and maintain social and political stability in the country. He requested to release him from his post for health reasons.

Minister of Justice B. Muhamedov reported on the progress of the legal reform and the measures taken to improve the regulatory framework and increase legal awareness of citizens of the country.
“All the laws we adopt, especially the Basic Law, must fully meet modern requirements and the universally recognized norms of international law,” the Turkmen leader said, noting that the synthesis of positive international practices and the fundamental principles of the existing national legislation was an essential factor contributing to the success of the legal reform.
