In the morning of March 16, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for a two-day official visit.
At the Nur Khan Airport in Islamabad, decorated with national flags of the two friendly countries, it took place the official ceremony in honor of visiting the President of Turkmenistan. A 21 gun salute and the carpets lay along the way from the plane stairs was presented to the visiting honorable Turkmen guest.
After the ceremony was concluded, at the Governmental residency of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the one-to-one talks were held between President of Turkmenistan and the head of state of Pakistan.
During the meeting, it was discussed wide range issues on interstate partnership, and implementation of bilateral cooperation, specified priority areas of Turkmen-Pakistan relations with regards to a long-term perspective. Then, it was exchanged views on important issues of regional and international policy of mutual interest
Then, the negotiation went on with participation of the government delegations of both sides. It was stressed the profound potential cooperation in various economic sectors such as: the fuel and energy, transportation and communication. In this context, emphasis was put on the importance of the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and creation of international communication transport corridors, and development of a multi-modal transport system.
Upon completion of the talks, there was a ceremony of signing bilateral documents. Among them, the program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Pakistan for the period of 2016-2017; the Memoranda of Understanding on cooperation in the energy sector, in the field of exchange of financial information related to legalization of income obtained criminal way and financing terrorism. Also, the Memorandum of Understanding signed between a number of universities and research institutions of the two countries.
