President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Governor of the Autonomous Territorial Unit (ATU) of Gagauzia (Moldova) Irina Vlah, who arrived in Turkmenistan for an official visit.

Thanking for the warm welcome and hospitality in the Turkmen land, the guest heartily congratulated the Turkmen leader on the International Day of Nowruz celebrated recently.

“I was very glad to take part in the large-scale celebrations on occasion of the National Spring Day and share this great joy with the fraternal Turkmen people. From the bottom of my heart I wish them peace, happiness and prosperity,” the guest said.

Gagauzia (or Gagauz Yeri) is the autonomous territorial unit with a special legal status located in the south of Moldova. The largest percentage of the total population is the Gagauz who, by their ethnic origin and linguistic characteristics, belong to the Oguz group of Turkic peoples.

Underlining spiritual and historical similarities of the ethnically close peoples of Turkmenistan and Gagauzia, their commitment and respect for centuries-old traditions and customs, the Turkmen leader and Irina Vlah underlined that the two countries were keenly interested in developing traditional cultural and humanitarian ties. In this regard, it was noted with satisfaction that Gagauzia was a member of the Humanitarian Association of the World Turkmens and its representatives regularly visited Turkmenistan and could see the progress of implementation of ambitious social and economic reforms and tremendous transformations initiated by the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The sides were unanimous that the first official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Moldova in July 2013, on the outcomes of which a number of important bilateral agreements were reached, including the intensification of contacts with the people of Gagauzia, had contributed to strengthening traditional contacts.

It was reported that within the framework of the visit to Ashgabat, the members of the delegation had a number of bilateral meetings, including the meetings at the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and a number of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan. The sides were unanimous that the existing potential opened up huge opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in a number of key areas, including the trade and economic, education, fuel and energy, health care, agriculture and water sectors as well as the implementation of joint projects.

In conclusion, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Governor of the Autonomous Territorial Unit (ATU) of Gagauzia of the Republic of Moldova Irina Vlah expressed belief that these business-like and constructive talks would lay a reliable foundation for further mutually beneficial cooperation.
