Owing to the state policy, being pursued by the nation leader, the sports and mass movement is rapidly growing year by year. The country regularly hosts numerous sport competitions, sports festivals.
Bringing up of physically strong and spiritually perfect youth directly contributes to the popularization of sport of high achievements, with a view of comprehensive development of which it is improved the legislation, “National Program for Support and Development of Physical Education and Sport in Turkmenistan for 2011-2020” was adopted and successfully implemented. As it was noted, today in our country, it is carried out the training of elite athletes, realized important projects on construction of modern, meeting the international standards, health and equestrian sports complexes, multifunctional stadiums, special educational institutions, autodromes and other important facilities, where all conditions are created for training in various kinds of sports.
The decision of Olympic Council of Asia to hold in Ashgabat in 2017 V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts became the recognition of the achievements of modern Turkmenistan, which gained ponderable successes under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the world sports arena and high international prestige.
A significant step on the way of active implementation of the principles of a healthy lifestyle in modern Turkmen society, promotion and development of physical culture and sport, strengthening of international cooperation in the field of public health became the decision of the head of state on annual holding in honor of World Health Day on April 5 to May 5 mass physical-sport and cultural actions.
