The declaration of Dashoguz the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2016 is of particular importance for further development of humanitarian relations between Turkmenistan and CIS member states and popularization of the national heritage and spiritual values of our people in the world.
Ancient Dashoguz located on the intersection of the Great Silk Road routes occupies a worthy place in the glorious history of the Turkmen people. Such outstanding thinkers, scientists and poets as Mahmyt Zamahshari, Mahmut Palvan, Ashyk Aydin peer, Nurmuhammet Andalib, Abdylla Shabende, Gurbanaly Magrupi lived there in various epochs and created their wonderful works.
The fact that the tradition of performing destans, one of the original genres of the national music and vocal art was very popular in this area is the subject of special pride of our people. Inscription of the epic art of Gorogly on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2015 vividly proves that the international community highly respects our national cultural heritage.
To mark the declaration of Dashoguz the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2016 our country will organize a number of international events with participation of famous scientists, historians, specialists of museums, workers of culture and art representing the CIS member states and Turkmenistan. The events will play an important role in enriching the spiritual values, preservation and popularization of our people’s cultural heritage”.
