President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the ceremony of laying flowers at the Memorial complex dedicated to the memory of the defenders of the Geokdepe fortress, the war veterans of the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945, and the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake.

The head of state is met by Chairman of Mejlis (Parliament), Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of military and law enforcement agencies, khyakims (governors) of regions and the capital city.

The leader of the nation lays flowers at the monument to the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake, and then at the pedestal of the monument for those who fallen for their country in the war of 1941-1945, in the Geokdepe fortress battles, and in other cruel battles aimed at protecting Motherland. These monuments are symbols of eternal memory of the nation’s brave sons of the Turkmen land.
Following the head of state, the wreaths at the monuments are laid by the members of the government, heads of Mejlis, military and law enforcement agencies, khyakims (governors) of the regions and Ashgabat city.
After laying flowers at the monument in a special facility for ritual meals, Turkmen leader gave Sadaqah on the occasion of a pilgrimage to the sacred Kaaba.
