President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Turkmenistan Akmalzhon Kuchkarov, who presented the letters of credence to the Turkmen leader.
Expressing sincere gratitude for the opportunity of a personal meeting, the diplomat conveyed the cordial greetings to the Turkmen leader and best wishes to the people of Turkmenistan from President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. The guest underlined that it was a great honour for him to represent his country in Turkmenistan bound with Uzbekistan by long-term ties of friendship and fruitful partnership.
Expressing the warm greetings to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in his turn, the President of Turkmenistan congratulated the Ambassador on the appointment to the high diplomatic post and wished him every success in his work. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that development of close friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with neighbouring states, including Uzbekistan, was a strategic priority of the foreign-policy course pursued by neutral Turkmenistan. The President also focused on the coincidence or congeniality of views of the two countries on the important issues of the regional and global agenda.
The Turkmen leader and his guest underlined the high level of the interstate relations successfully developing in bilateral and multi-lateral formats, within the framework of authoritative regional and international organisations and structures. In this context, the sides focused on the existing favourable opportunities for building up efficient partnership in the trade and economic sphere and other promising areas, where the countries have accumulated rich experience of cooperation, in particular delivery of agricultural equipment produced in Uzbekistan, which is in particular demand in the agricultural sector of Turkmenistan. The Intergovernmental Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan Commission will play an important role in this regard serving as an effective mechanism to intensify mutually beneficial cooperation and bring it to new levels.
The energy, transport and communications sectors, where Turkmenistan put forward a number of constructive initiatives that were supported by the Uzbek side were specified among the priority vectors of cooperation. The ambitious joint project on construction of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China transnational gas pipeline and the participation of the two countries in the Agreement on the Central Asia-Middle East transnational transport and transit corridor that will open up new opportunities to enter the world markets vividly testify to the efficient efforts taken by the countries. It was noted that the optimal implementation of the existing multifaceted potential of cooperation satisfied the national interests of the two states as well as the goals on sustainable development in the region. Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are unanimous in their aspiration to provide assistance in intensifying positive regional processes contributing to the global wellbeing and progress.
Given modern realities, ecology and environmental protection are the important areas of cooperation as well. In this regard, it was noted that Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan actively cooperated within the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS). As is known, our country chairs the Interstate Commission for Sustainable Development (IFAS ICSD) in 2015-2016.
It was also noted given the historical community of cultural roots, spiritual values and centuries-old traditions of the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples, cooperation in humanitarian sphere served as an integral part of the interstate dialogue.
In conclusion, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akmalzhon Kuchkarov assured the leader of the Turkmen state that he would make every effort to strengthen Turkmen-Uzbek relations and wished President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov new achievements in his noble large-scale activity and fraternal people of Turkmenistan - peace and prosperity.
