President of Turkmenistan received the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Sir Suma Chakrabarti who arrived in Turkmenistan

Thanking for the warm welcome and generous hospitality in the Turkmen land, the guest highly appreciated for work carried out under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and measures taken to strengthen the national financial and banking system, to allow sovereign Turkmenistan to ensure domestic economic stability, and to sustain high rates of economic and social growth.

Expressing a strong interest in deepening of a long-term cooperation with Turkmenistan, the head of the EBRD underlined that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development fully supported the ongoing strategy on diversification of national economy and improvement of financial and banking institutions and from his side, he was ready to render all possible assistance to this positive process.

Thanking for the kind words, the Head of the State noted that the main and invariable vector of political policy of Neutral Turkmenistan was a broad international co-operation with leading financial organizations and structures that fully correspond national priorities and key objectives of the integrated development of the country.

In the course of meeting, held in a confidential setting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the head of the largest bank in Europe exchanged views on priority aspects of cooperation to discuss the outlook of its further development.

As kindly noted, during the years of long-term cooperation the EBRD has gained positive experience in business partnership with Turkmenistan. In particular, there were 53 projects implemented in the country, which was a successful indicator of a joint work. As a result, it opens up new large prospective. The new project proposals implementation in the oil and gas industry and other key sectors of the economy was the subject of detailed discussion aimed at further strengthening the partnership ties between Turkmenistan and Europe, and implementing of the major economic and market reforms. A separate topic of discussion was the possibility of participation of the largest European bank in the construction of the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India, initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the benefits of the peoples of the region.

Today, our country plays an important role in the sustainable development of the entire Central Asian region. As stressed by the head of the EBRD that the Bank is ready to build up a fruitful cooperation based on the principle of long-term and mutual benefit.

At the end of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guest exchanged the best wishes and expressed interest in the successful development of a constructive partnership aimed to promote further integration of Turkmenistan into the global economic relations, and strengthen the economic power of the country.
