On the occasion of World Tobacco Free Day, the WHO and the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control call upon all the countries to switch over to simplified and standardized packing of tobacco products. According to the experts of the international organization, simple packing is the important measure for reducing the demand as it limits the use of tobacco packing in commercial targets and stimulation of tobacco sales and enhance the effectiveness of cautioning on the dangers for health.
Simple packing of tobacco products is one of the measures that limits or bans the use of logotypes, colours, images of tobacco brands or propaganda information on packages excluding trade and product names printed in standard colours and fonts. In December 2012, Australia became the first country that introduced the use of simple packing. In 2015, Ireland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and France adopted the laws on implementation of this tool of anti-tobacco advertising in their countries starting from May 2016.
As informed by the Ministry of Health Care and Medical Industry, considerable success was achieved in tobacco control especially due to political will and adherence of our country to the propositions of WHO framework convention on tobacco control. Turkmenistan actively develops international cooperation in this direction and adopts the practices of other countries. This related to standardized packing what undoubtedly will bring the expected results
