President of Turkmenistan, in particular, said: "Our ancestors lived for centuries in harmony with nature; it is in Turkmens’ character to love nature, which ran through the entire life, traditions and mentality. Conservation of natural resources, beautiful nature of our native land firmly entrenched in the minds of our people, as a guarantee to create effective methods in addressing environmental issues.
One of the priorities of state policy are to ensure a healthy environment in Turkmenistan, to protect people’s health and to create conditions conducive for their healthy life, to take care of nature and sustainable utilization of natural resources, to commissioning environmentally sound technologies and other related issues.
Fully realized a long-term environmental strategy aimed at protecting nature, ensuring environmental soundness, rationally using land and water resources, enriching biodiversity and preventing soil degradation.
Currently, it is taken measures at the state level to let turn the country into a blooming garden and environmental well-being, augmentation flora and fauna, careful preservation of native wildlife.
In the framework of a large-scale country program it is expanding the green zone around our beautiful capital city, Ashgabat. Turkmen Lake "Altyn Asyr" is created in the central Karakum, has a beneficial effect on enrichment of flora and fauna of the desert, thereby contributing to the stabilization of the ecological situation in the entire region.
The state adds special importance to further strengthening and improving the legal framework in sphere of environment. As evidenced, having adopted the Law of Turkmenistan "On Nature Protection", "On Flora Protection and Management", " On Fauna Protection and Efficient Use ", “On Specially Protected Natural Areas, "On Utilizations", “On protection of atmosphere"and other regulations.
Independent Neutral Turkmenistan pursues a consistent and an effective policy on environmental protection at the international level. In this direction, we have consistently collaborated with many reputable international organizations, such as: United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, World Bank, as well as new initiatives aimed at ensuring environmental well-being.
A vivid evidence is Turkmenistan's initiative, having declared at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in the framework of the 70th Regular session of the United Nations General Assembly, and international conferences held in Japan and the Republic of Korea, new proposals on environmental protection and considerate usage of water and energy resources and food security, reducing risks of natural disasters, a comprehensive approach to resolving environmental problems of the Region particularly of Aral and Caspian sea.
Our country is among the first to support the need for a new international treaty of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. In addition, there was an initiative to launch the Regional Centre for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia in Ashgabat; we have declared readiness to create conditions conducive to it.
This year, we celebrate anniversaries of the Year of the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Independence, the Year of Honoring the Heritage and Transformation of the Fatherland. We will continue to implement large-scale programs for the protection of rich historical and cultural heritage of the Turkmen people, to ensure clean environment and sustainable use of our natural resources.
