President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the head of United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Turkmenistan Oyuunsayhan Dendevnorov, who is completing her mission in our country.
Having expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have a meeting, a representative of the largest international organization stresses that she will recall the years of work in Turkmenistan with great pleasure.
As noted, a great recognition of the international authority of Turkmenistan is that Turkmenistan’ representative is appointed as vice-chairman of the 71-th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Warmly congratulated on this wonderful event, the head of UNICEF office has expressed confidence in further successful continuation of a productive dialogue in the context of the overall goals and objectives set up in recent years.
Thanking for the warm words, President highly appreciated personal contribution of the diplomat to comprehensive development of traditional cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNICEF. In recent years it was implemented a number of important joint projects and programs in various fields, including health, education, sports, protection of motherhood and childhood, etc.
Thus, over the years UNICEF acts as a permanent partner of Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan in publication and dissemination of information materials and brochures on informative and developmental nature, organization of conferences, seminars, meetings, theme events, including those aimed at strengthening and protecting health of young people.
As emphasized, based on years of positive experience of joint activities, Turkmenistan intends to continue working closely with the major international organizations in UN system, in particular UNICEF and WHO are contributing to realization of large-scale national projects on enrichment of foodstuffs and conducting child immunization all in which Turkmenistan is taking a leader position in Central Asian region.
Over the years of cooperation, UNICEF has also successfully implemented a number of significant projects to reduce diseases related to iodine and iron deficiency. Thus, Turkmenistan established 100-percent enrichment country's wheat flour (1st sort) with folic acid and iron. It is undergoing a lot of work on provision of population with iodized salt. In this connection it is appropriate to recall that Turkmenistan was the first state among CIS countries and Central Asia, and the fourth in the world, which was universally recognized as a country to ensure full salt iodization in accordance with generally accepted international standards.
During the meeting the sides exchange views on the progress and prospects of further expansion of long-term constructive dialogue, a practical guide for the development of the Action Plan of the Country Programme of Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UNICEF for the period of 2016-2020, approved by the Turkmen leader in March of this year.
UNICEF strongly supports constructive foreign policy of our country, which is fully responding to the set goals on general well being, said Ms. Oyuunsayhan Dendevnorov. Also, she expresses confidence that next powerful impetus of joint work will give new initiatives and proposals made by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the summit on sustainable development held in September last year in the framework of anniversary of 70th session of the UN General Assembly.
Having declared cooperation with reputable international organizations, one of the strategic priorities of foreign policy, Turkmenistan has established constructive, mutually beneficial dialogue with almost all the specialized agencies and structures of United Nations, including UNICEF.
Turkmenistan's commitment to further partnership in the areas of health, education and social protection of children, which confirms the accession of our country to the basic international legal documents in the field of children's rights, including a World Declaration on the Survival, Protection and Development of Children and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
During the talk, it touches upon issues related to the multi-cluster research carried out in Turkmenistan, the results of which became the model for the remaining 22 states.
