The next campaign for destruction of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances seized in the course of a number of successful special operations carried out jointly by law enforcement and military agencies near the village Bagabat district of Ak Bugday of Akhal region. The event is organized by the Government, State Coordination Commission on Drug Abuse under the Cabinet of Ministers and Ministry of the Interior of Turkmenistan, and is traditionally dedicated to the International Day against the use, distribution, and drug trafficking, which is celebrated worldwide on June 26.
Heads of law enforcement agencies of Turkmenistan, representatives accredited in our country, foreign diplomatic missions, the leading international organizations, including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC), the OSCE, as well as non-governmental organizations and the mass media took part in the campaign.
According to the rules, the entire combustion process from beginning to end was under the control of law enforcement agencies and authorized experts. Accordingly, one could through the demonstrated package of drugs in a special furnace stove.
The campaign during of which were destroyed narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, became the next obvious confirmation of strong commitment of our state and society to confront one of the most dangerous for modern challenges of the mankind, uncompromising fight against illicit trafficking and smuggling of narcotics.
As emphasized in the speeches of the participants, Turkmenistan, which determined strong fight with dissemination of drugs as a major government policy priority can now serve as a good example for many countries. Our country is a member of International Convention on the fight against illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as a number of regional and international projects and programs of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime of European Union. The main objective of ongoing projects in this direction is consolidation of efforts to counter drug trafficking, strengthening border controls to prevent smuggling of narcotic substances, technical assistance and training of law enforcement officials.
The large-scale work on the control and prevention of drug abuse, detection and treatment of people who are likely to use drugs, is actively conducted within the framework of developed under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov “National program of Turkmenistan to combat drug trafficking, assist people addicted to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for 2011-2015”.The program is the starting point for a number of important measures, reinforced by a previously adopted Law of Turkmenistan "On narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursors and measures to counter their illicit trafficking."
The result based outcomes is represented by the implemented the ongoing events aimed at prevention of drug abuse, involving all structures, including medical and educational institutions, public organizations, as well as religious leaders, the mass media.
The government supported program on active promotion of healthy lifestyles, development of physical culture and sports has a great importance. Currently, modern stadiums, sports and health centers, new schools with gyms and swimming pools are working in all regions of the country.
To conduct the principles of healthy lifestyle and to engage into sport is an asset for society and for younger generation.
Upon completion of the campaign, the participants expressed sincere gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the opportunity to join the noble initiative of the Turkmen side which has great importance to oppose global threat aimed at ensuring security in the region and around the world.
