President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made working trip around Ashgabat, having acquainted with construction of new Ashgabat International Airport. The construction of cargo terminal in air harbour and logistic centre on its base became the subject of interested attention of the Leader of the Nation.
At arrival to the territory of International Airport, which is due to be put into operation, the Head of the state proceeded to cargo terminal, which construction is currently on the final stage.
There, the Deputies Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Heads of number of departments met the Leader of the Nation. Vice-premier S. Satlykov reported to the Head of the State about the measure undertaken for improvement of equipment and facility base of State National Service “Turkmenhowayollary” and modernization of velayats’ airports. He also informed about main characteristics of cargo terminal.
Total area of cargo terminal is 17174 square metres. Working capacity of terminal is 200 thousand tons of cargo per year. Export and import zones, two refrigerating premises, warehouses for different types of cargo will be located on its territory. Distribution centre of State Company “Turkmenpochta” is also projected to be placed there. The Postal centre will include rooms for processing and sorting of cargos, service and other technical premises.
Office spaces for postal and cargo delivery services of Ashgabat International Airport, post of State Custom Service of Turkmenistan as well as branch of State Veterinary Service will be located there.
Modernization of land service of air cargo transfer is one of priority directions of development of national civil aviation. For realization of assignments given employees of air service of Turkmenistan by Leader of the Nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the cargo terminal of Ashgabat International Airport provided with modern technical equipment aimed at improvement of business process.
ETV system (Elevating Transfer Vehicle) includes electric driven cargo transport platforms on loading and discharge stations and on adjoin territory near aprons of aircrafts.
In export section, cargos underwent X-ray inspection are transferred by forklifts or platforms to loading station. Operator using conveyor sends palleted cargo to ETV system. There are another four loading/discharge docks in this section. Cargos, introduced to ETV system, are transferred to aircrafts’ parking according to the flight timetable. Dispatched cargo are automatically piled on special carts, its code is being read and it is being deleted from the system register.
Cargo terminal of International Airport of Turkmen capital will become the largest and most high-tech advanced centre of both our country and whole region.
Further, Vice-premier S. Satlykov reported to the Head of the State on situation in construction of facilities in capital International airport, equipping of cargo terminal, implementation of modern machineries for organization of efficient air cargo freights and service.

Expressing keen interest in condition of ground operation base and provision of airport’s facilities, the Head of the State mentioned that development of transport sector at present time is integral factor of geopolitics, powerful integration resource, which is able to provide social and economic progress in regional and global scale.

Having noted that taking “open door” and broad international cooperation policy, Turkmenistan pays great attention to development of this segment, the Head of the State emphasized that it stipulates the accumulation of transit capabilities of the country as large transportation hub of continental importance.

For this purpose, composite system of transport lines combining air and land routes based on optimum concord and use of each advantages, with access to international and regional sea, river, automobile, railroad and air hubs is created in the country.

Our country has built and continues to project thousands of kilometres of railroads and wide autobahns of international importance, constructs new and modernizes existing sea and air harbours. All these are the links of one large logistic chain, which well-organized operation will serve to create the condition necessary for development of national economy, international trade relations and economic partnership.
The integral component of large-scale plans, which are implemented by stages in this sphere, is modernization of facilities and equipment base and radical renewal of domestic civil aviation fleet, which is given with considerable role in cargo and passenger transfers both on internal and international routes. Concrete and consecutive measures are undertaken in this direction in our country.
“National programme for development of civil aviation of Turkmenistan for 2012 – 2030” aims at dealing with issues of the industry and projects the construction of new and reconstruction of existing airports and other related facilities, training of highly professional specialists, procurement of modern airplanes and necessary equipment, opening of new flight routes including international as well as enhancement of quality of rendered services.
During the visit to International Airport, the Head of the State has listened to the report on international flights from the capital, geography of international carriers routes transiting via Ashgabat, conditions for arriving and departing passengers and other services rendered by national air company and related agencies.
It worth mentioning that waiting and check-in halls, rooms for mothers and children, information displays and desks, ticket offices, luggage storages, ATMs, first aid rooms, restaurants, duty free shops and others will be at passengers’ services. Comfortable hotel for pilots and transit passengers is planned there as well.
Ashgabat International Airport will have 1600 passengers per hour capacity. It will be able to take airplanes of any type and tonnage providing international standard service at this.
