Special working group for fulfilment of international obligations in human rights and international humanitarian right spheres developed strategy for 2016 – 2017 under relaization of National Action Plan for Gender Equality. Informational support in realization of aspects of gender equality and state policy in this area were designated as strategy direction in this work.
With development of new information technologies and globalization of information system, mass media influence visions and behaviour of people and state policy; therefore, there is “potential opportunity for mass media to put bigger input in advancement of women” – is said in documents of Peking conference. In this relation, during discussion of the roadmap, the member of the working group focused the attention on necessity of broad coverage of geneder policy of the state by mass media, what would considerably increase the efficiency of decisions adopted on all levels.
Achievement of gender equality is one of the priority directions of presidential strategy for consolidation of democratic bases of Turkmen society. In our country, in accordance with ratified international conventions, women are rendered with comprehensive support in creation of equal with men rights and opportunities in educational, health protection, spheres, professional activity and career growth, social and political life. These key aspects of gender approach are enshrined in national legislation and complex programmes for development of the country. State support of family, maternity and childhood indicates to dedicated realization of gender policy. Image of modern Turkmen woman is associated in social understanding with creative approach and thinking, high professionalism, responsibility, resolution, exactingness and enterprise. Spiritual, intellectual and moral potential of women is demanded for solution of social tasks; they revealed themselves more actively in social and political and production spheres. Their role in upbringing of growing generation is priceless.
National mass media, publishing materials on gender equality, carry out important mission for popularization of versatile image of modern Turkmen woman. Under support of representative office of the UNPF in Turkmenistan, training for preparation of “gender – sensitive materials” are being conducted for journalists.
Along with this, tasks, defined in National Action Plan for Gender Equality, require correction of approaches to informational provision of the aspects of gender range of problems. In this purpose, roadmap for National Action Plan for Gender Equality for 2016 – 2017 focused on activation of mass media work for coverage of gender policy of Turkmenistan. In particular, the achievement of this goal is summoned to promote increase of quantity and expand theme directions of articles in printing media and educational programmes on TV and radio, training of journalists, conduct of dedicated information campaigns accented the attention on equality between men and women, necessity of creation of positive image of modern woman – leader, woman – politician, woman – entrepreneur.
As it is expected, combined information approach will enhance elimination of gender stereotypes and establishment of gender equality in all spheres of social and state life.
