Mourning ceremonies on occasion of demise of President of Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov were held today in Samarkand.
The Uzbekistan Leader passed away at the age of 79 of a stroke. Thousands of citizens of Samarkand met motorcade with corpse of President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, delivered to the city airport from Tashkent today. Long chain of mourners line up along the way from the airport to the city centre.
Islam Karimov was buried according to Muslim traditions in family tomb at historical Shahi-Zinda graveyard, where medieval personalities as well as parents of the first President of Uzbekistan found their last home.
Three days mourning is declared in Republic of Uzbekistan.
Official mourning ceremony was held at the famous Registan square in Samarkand residence of the Uzbek Leader.
Not only the citizens of this country but members of seventeen states delegations including Presidents of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Prime-ministers of Russian Federation, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan as well as Vice-premiers of China, Republic of Korea, Ukraine and others came to see off the eminent statesman to his last journey.
On behalf of the Government of Uzbekistan, Prime-minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev opened the ceremony. The floor was given to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Speaking at mourning memorial service, the Turkmen Leader said farewell words to his colleague, brother and friend Islam Karimov.
Today, we deeply mourn the untimely loss of President of Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov, the first President of independent country, - President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said on behalf of Turkmen people.
Making special mention of personal qualities of the deceased, who loved infinitely his people, motherland and who made a lot for their development and prosperity, standing at the beginning of independence of Uzbekistan, the Head of our State highlighted that it was a man of big heart, true patriot, outstanding politician and statesman.
All his constructive initiatives met support in the world arena. Under his support, the country deservingly dealt with serious issues of building of new life and reached considerable successes.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid special attention to great role of Islam Karimov in development of Turkmen – Uzbek relations, which always rest upon primordial friendship relations and centuries-old traditions of good neighbourhood of our peoples, which continue wise precepts of ancestors. We loved him a lot. He was honourable elder in Turkmenistan and hold in respect of the people that felt sincere sympathy of him.
The head of Turkmenistan said that he remembers remarkable statements of Islam Abduganiyevich who used to say always that most precious and foremost existing in the Earth is trust between the countries and that this is the treasury that we always have to appreciate and improve.
Turkmen people, being closest friends of your country, mourn today together with you and sincerely embrace your pain. Our squares, our public gardens not only in the capital but also throughout the whole country will bear the name of Islam Karimov, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
We will always keep in our hearts warm memories of Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov, the prominent political leader, true son of his Motherland. It is not in our power to change anything.
