Turkmenistan's cooperation with specialized international structures is of great importance in the development of national standards, certification of products manufactured in the country for compliance with international standards and its promotion to export markets. The standards cover a wide range of areas, from construction to nanotechnology, from energy management to health and safety. Cooperation in this area contributes to the facilitation of international trade, ensuring competitiveness and product quality, compliance with the requirements of technical regulations, improving the safety of life and health of citizens and protecting consumer rights.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the full membership of Turkmenistan in the Interregional Association for Standardization (IAS), the purpose of which is to cooperate with international and interregional organizations on standardization issues. In November 2000, Ashgabat hosted the 10th meeting of the IAU General Assembly, at which issues of expanding fruitful relations in the field of standardization of the member states of the Interregional Association for Standardization were discussed.
Since 1992, Turkmenistan has also been a full member of the Interstate Council (ICC) for standardization, metrology and certification of the CIS - an intergovernmental organization for the formation and implementation of an agreed policy on standardization, metrology and certification. For 30 years of membership in the IGU between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of Uzbekistan (1996.01.16), the Government of the Republic of Armenia (1997.06.05), the Government of Georgia (1997.12.05), the Government of Ukraine (1998.01.28), the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2007.05.28 ), the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2008.05.19), the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan (2010.03.18), the Government of the Republic of Belarus (2011.03.17) signed agreements on standardization, metrology and certification.
Similar agreements were also concluded between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the People's Republic of China (2011.11.23), the Government of the United Arab Emirates (2013.02.16), the Government of the Republic of Poland (2015.03.17). Adopted a Communique of Understanding between the Main State Service "Turkmenstandartlary" and the Austrian Standards Institute (ASI) (2011.10.13), the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (2014.06.20). Meetings of the Interstate Council of the IGU were held in May 1996 in Ashgabat and in May 2011 in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in the city of Turkmenbashi.
Cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) plays an important role in ensuring the competitiveness and quality of products (works, services), promoting domestic goods to foreign markets. Turkmenistan has been a corresponding member of ISO since 1993, which makes it possible to receive all new international standards in English free of charge. The Turkmen national alphabet in accordance with the international standard ISO 2375 in Tokyo on September 14, 2000 (via the Internet) was transferred from the International Register (with number 230). Currently, the products of many public and private enterprises of Turkmenistan are certified for compliance with ISO quality and environmental safety standards. On May 31 this year, in cooperation with ISO, the Main State Service “Turkmenstandartlary” adopted the International Standard TDS-ISO 13503-1:2011 (E) “Oil and gas industry.
