Early in the morning, Head of the State Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived to wastewater treatment station (STS – 300), which is one of the key parts of engineering infrastructural system built in Ashgabat.
The Chairperson of Mejlis, Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers Sh. Durdyliyev, the Chairman of the State Committee of Environment Protection and Land Resources, the Ministers of Agriculture and Water management, Communal Services, the Hyakim of Ashgabat, the Head of Enterprise Association “Ashgabadagyzsuv” were also there.
The Head of the State began the inspection of the territory of the facility, which area is 75 hectares. Having paid attention to planning of the site, the Leader of the Nation addressed the vice-premier to take care of beautification and landscaping as well as stipulate fencing of the territory as protected site.
The President of Turkmenistan proceeded to the main pump station and went down to basement familiarizing with equipment installed there and principles of work of the unit, which automatically intakes and discharges waste waters for the treatment. The Leader of the Nation requested Sh. Durdyliyev to consider possibility of delivery of salty waste water for its treatment and re-use in agriculture.
The Head of the State continued the inspection of the territory of the STS – 300 complex, which is final part of processing cycle in the system of engineering infrastructural tunnel.
Having proceeded to special pavilion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov familiarized with presented layouts of the facility. All stages of complex technological process was demonstrated at drawings of engineering networks, which work was informed in details by the vice-premier.
Drainage treatment technology, applied there, is advanced modern waste –free process as treated and decontaminated water can be used for watering and dehydrated sludge as land fill or fertilizer.
Leader of the Nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov mentioned that it is important to implement efficient control of work for correct operation of the station. Regular calculations of drain water, bacteriological analysis of water samples coming from every facility and after discharge have to be carried out for it.

It worth reminding that the second phase of drainage tunnel and drain water treatment complex were put into operation in November 2015. Around 3.8 kilometres of 6-metre diameter drainage collector, wastewater treatment facilities, more than 2.1 kilometres of rainwater collectors and other facilities were built during works in northern part of Ashgabat.
Cultivation of new lands is planned using treated drain water. The Minister of agriculture and water management reported that maximum output of STS – 300 is 3.5 cubic metres of treated water per second. Currently it produces one cubic metre per second. This water is being delivered to the “Altyn Asyr” Turkmen Lake via drainage collectors. Total length of drainage collector HC – 1, which is built under Turkmen Lake project, is 4.8 kilometres, where as for today, 3.3 kilometres has been already laid. Four gas overpasses are stipulated to be built along the collector; two of the have already been built and remaining two are under completion.
3600 hectares are planned to be cultivated during first phase of development of new lands. For this purpose, it is necessary to build 7.3 kilometres of main concreted channel, 165 kilometres of concreted irrigation channels, 72 kilometres of open drainage, 54 kilometres of enclosed drainages, 7.3 kilometres of gravel road, 1410 different facilities (214 water distribution units, 799 water weirs, 135 water outlets, 40 pipe overpasses, 222 control wells) as well as water elevation station and 6.5 kilometres of pipeline. Layout of 3226 hectares of land is yet to be carried out. Water elevation station is designed for irrigation of 1080 hectares of lands where water cannot reach by natural flow. 15.2 kilometres of drainage have been dug out, certain facilities has been built already.
Currently, second phase of construction of Turkmen Lake is carried out and as emphasized by the Leader of the Nation, the priority target of scientists, ecologists is a study of processes positively affecting the environment and development of recommendations for improvement of work efficiency in this sphere.
The Head of the State noted that construction of drainage tunnel is important activity for development of the urban infrastructure, protection of environment from discharge and penetration of untreated sewage wastes to ground waters, improvement of ecological and sanitary epidemiologic conditions in the city.
Facilities of drainage tunnel, presenting the system of surface and underground facilities, allow complex solution of issues of life support in Ashgabat, - President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted. In particular, it will decrease level of ground waters in the most waterlogged part of the city, improve urban sewage, water, power and communication supply networks and their exploitations, increase efficiency of use of surface and ground waters by increase of volume of water suitable for irrigation.
At present, construction of drainage tunnel is continued in western part of the city. 5 kilometres of 6-metre diameter tunnel, four wells for collection of sewage waters, 8 radial water intakes, dispatch centre, administration building for operation of drainage system will be built there.
Uniqueness of this engineering technical facility is in concentration of all urban communications in it. The function of the tunnel is to collect and divert wastewaters to treatment facilities outside of the capital. According to the project, upper part of the tunnel will locate engineering networks – power lines, water supply and telecommunications. Thus, water and power supply to the city will be performed on higher level after completion of works and unification of all networks into singe circle. Currently, necessary works for decrease of level of ground waters are already carried out; in particular, their level was lowered for two meters in the northern-eastern part of Ashgabat.
The Head of the State emphasized the importance of study of new technologies in laying of underground communications by Turkmen specialist and training of personnel in this field.
Continuing the inspection, Leader of the Nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited other sections of wastewater treatment complex including aero tanks, where biological treatment of waters undergoes and protozoan unicellular and multicellular organism, living on pathogenic organic substances, inhabit. Special conditions are created for vital functions of these microorganisms. For example, air blowers with 1 kW output each, enriching the water with necessary oxygen for functioning of microorganisms, are installed there.
Diversity of microorganisms, which gather in colonies, is referred to as activated sludge. It takes 20 – 24 hours, depending on the loading, for the whole process of treatment of wastewaters in the complex.
After water underwent all stages of treatment – mechanical and biological, it goes to secondary settling reservoir, where clean water is separated from activate sludge, which is being sedimented and returned by pipelines to aero tank. The exhausted sludge, after relevant preparation and drying, is being compressed in blocks. These are green fertilizers containing a lot of biogenic substances (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, microelements and organics)
The president of Turkmenistan gave instructions to relevant heads to provide production of such fertilizers for internal market as well as to arrange export of it.
The Head of the State requested to train specialists and scientific personnel in the sphere of research and development of innovative methods of treatment, filtration and desalination of water taking to account increasing volume of global water consumption and growing water deficiency in the planet.
Important role is given to the drainage communication tunnel in establishment of modern environmental infrastructure of the capital in its long-term urban planning development with respect to rapid urbanization, - the Turkmen Leader mentioned.

The construction, for which 70 hectares of land was allocated, is carried out by companies members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. The complex of double-store cottages includes 240 houses with 315 square meters area, 60 houses of 295 square meters and 32 – of 285 square meters.
Having familiarized with course and quality of construction, performed by private companies, the Head of the State mentioned growing opportunities of Turkmen business, for which development the state undertakes all necessary measures. The construction of such beautiful living houses indicates the improvement of life quality of our citizens, the Leader of the Nation said, giving instructions to create the best conditions for new tenants.
