Turkmenistan celebrates the International Day of Older Persons

Turkmenistan celebrates the International Day of Older Persons. This day is celebrated annually around the world, since 1991, aimed at attracting the attention of the general public to the problems of the elderly when it was adopted a special decision of the UN General Assembly.

This holiday is included in the national register of significant dates that fully meet the priorities of the state policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which laid the basis for ancestral values and the centuries-old traditions of the Turkmen people.


One of these traditions is reverence and deep respect for older people, whose rich life and work experience is invaluable in case of patriotic and moral education of youth and in the task of implementing deployed in Turkmenistan large-scale socio-economic transformations. As is known from ancient times the Turkmen people have had custom to discuss all vital issues with the gray-haired elders. A vivid evidence of this is the Council of Elders is one of the most important democratic institutions of the Turkmen society.

Today, Turkmen say thanks to older people, who make a significant contribution to the prosperity of the Motherland, raising children and grandchildren on the examples of true patriotism, hard work and high responsibility for their deeds and actions.


Solemn meetings, concerts and other festivities were held within the framework of the International Day of Older Persons in the capital and regions of the country, in the higher and secondary educational institutions, houses of culture.

Ashgabat arranged celebration in honor of elders held at the square in front of the Palace «Maslahatköşgi» meetings, which also gathered Chairperson of Mejlis, government officials, representatives of NGOs, media and students.

Head of the Parliament congratulated those present on the holiday, noting that since time immemorial Turkmens was brought vital issues addressed at the general council with the most worthy, wise life experience countrymen. This tradition is based on a deep respect for the opinion of the representatives of the older generation, their unwavering authority of the people, has become an integral part of the social and state system of independent neutral Turkmenistan.


Then, the head of the parliament of Turkmenistan handed over to representatives of the Council of Elders of Turkmenistan on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov the keys to the vehicle.

The elders, and the gray-haired mother routinely performed a ritual custom, showering car with flour and tying him aladja-stripe as a symbolic guardian.

After singing and musical performances elders made a new comfortable bus tour of the sights of the capital, its broad avenues, elegantly decorated on the occasion of the approaching 25th anniversary of independence, visited a beautiful park at the foot of the Health Road in the foothills of health Gindivara.

International Day of Older Persons continued the concert, which was attended by the country's masters of Arts, spoke with representatives of the older generation in the capital's cinema center "Vatan".

Our state takes special care of their elderly citizens. The country carries out systematic work to improve the welfare and improvement of social conditions of life of the older generation of the Turkmen people.


Every year, increasing the size of pensions and state benefits, a number of legislative and regulatory acts, including the Code of Turkmenistan "On Social Security", which includes a set of measures aimed at social protection and support for pensioners, war veterans, labor veterans, the disabled.

Respect for the elderly and dignified role in society show the pages of history, works of Turkmen classics and folk proverbs and sayings, transmitted from generation to generation. "Where there are no old people, cannot be young ones," "The Elders is a support of home" - these sayings were born in our people, relating to their aksakal of deep reverence, as a wise mentors and teachers.
