Seven medals - two silver and five bronze - were won by Turkmen athletes in kurash wrestling at the VII International Sports Games "Children of Asia" among athletes aged 13-16, which ended in Vladivostok.
Awards in this type of program in 9 weight categories (five male and four female) were contested by representatives of 8 countries - Armenia, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and four regions of Russia - Tatarstan, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Primorsky Territory and the Siberian Federal District.
Among the boys, Sanjar Buriev performed the best in the team of Turkmenistan. In the weight category up to 42 kg, in which 8 athletes fought for medals, a student of the 9th grade of the Ashgabat school for training young Olympians, 3 seconds before the end of the semifinal fight, won a clear victory over Sharafzhu Abolfazl from Iran. In the final, S. Buriev lost to Timur Rakhimov from Uzbekistan and was content with a silver medal.
Silver was also awarded to a student of the 9th grade of the 31st secondary school of Turkmenabat Zinat Kochmatova, who competed in the weight category up to 44 kg), in which 8 athletes competed for awards.
Bronze medalists in the team of Turkmenistan were a student of the 9th grade of the 28th secondary school of the Koytendag etrap of the Lebap velayat Dinislam Mahmasarifov (up to 50 kg), a student of the 9th grade of the Ashgabat 133rd specialized secondary school for in-depth study of foreign languages Seyitnazar Khudaiberdyev (up to 60 kg), a student of the 9th grade of the 20th secondary school of the Farab etrap of the Lebap velayat Narmurat Muradov (up to 71 kg), a student of the 9th grade of the 4th secondary school of Turkmenabat Dayanch Karaev (up to 83 kg) and a student of the 9th grade 14 -th secondary school of Sayat etrap, Lebap velayat Nuran Khezretov (over 63 kg).
It is noteworthy that this is the second medal for N. Khezretova at the Children of Asia Games. Previously, she won bronze in the sambist competition in the weight category up to 65 kg.
Recall that earlier two medals were also brought to the treasury of the Turkmenistan team by the athlete Sabina Kasymdzhanova from the Dyanevsky etrap of the Lebap velayat, who won gold in the 3000-meter run and bronze in the 1500-meter run.
Turkmen athletes also excelled in freestyle (1 gold and 4 bronze) and Greco-Roman (1 bronze) wrestling, as well as in table tennis competitions (1 silver in men's doubles).
In total, Turkmen athletes won 16 medals (2 gold, 3 silver, 11 bronze) at the VII International Sports Games "Children of Asia" and took 10th place in the team standings among 18 teams with medals. Only three teams remained without medals - Lebanon, Pakistan and Thailand.
Athletes of Turkmenistan have participated in the Children of Asia Games for the fourth time since 2008. At these previous complex competitions, which were held in 2016 in Yakutsk, they won 9 medals.
The next, VIII Summer International Sports Games "Children of Asia" will be held in 2024 in Yakutsk.
