Yesterday, Turkmenistan observed Memory Day, nationwide tribute to heroes lost in the fields of all wars as well as victims of devastating earthquake in Ashgabat in 1948. On occasion of this mournful date, the State flags would fly half-staff throughout the country, memorial prayers are being conducted and sadaka are being served. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in mourning ceremony of laying of flowers to «Halk hakydasy» Memorial complex.
68 year ago, natural disaster caused irreplaceable bereavement to Turkmen people, having taken lives of hundreds of thousands of people. In no time, ruthless disaster completely ruined beautiful and prosperous city and its suburbs. Passed decades did not erase from the people’s memory and hearts names of relatives and friends, who became innocent victims of the earthquake.
Early in the morning, thousands of Ashgabat citizens and guests arrived at «Halk hakydasy» Memorial complex located in southwestern part of the capital and being grand symbol of high honouring of valiant heroes and deep respect of Turkmen people to its glorious past.
The vehicle of the President stopped at the square in front of the Memorial complex, where guard of honour was lined up.
The Chairperson of Mejlis, Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, Hyakims of velayats and Ashgabat, Leaders of military and law enforcement agencies, non-governmental organizations, heads of diplomatic offices and missions accredited to our country, deputies of National Parliament, honoured elders, foreign businessmen, student of high educational institutions gathered there.
The national anthem of Turkmenistan started playing.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proceeded to «Ruhy tagzym» grand monument to pay tribute to the victims of Ashgabat earthquake in 1948, which was one of the strongest and most devastating in the history of humanity. The participants observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of that terrible natural disaster.
As a sign of deep grieve, the Leader of the Nation bowed his head. The Head of Turkmenistan has special attitude to this sorrowful date. During that night, merciless disaster took life of grandfather of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Berdimuhamed Annayev, who was veteran of 1941 - 1945 war, teacher and educator.
After, the Leader of the nation laid flowers to «Milletiň ogullary» monument, which is symbol of eternal people’s memory of valiant heroes of the native land. Memory and tradition to honour national heroes would always be unshakeable principles of Turkmen society. There are defenders of Gyoktepe fortress and members of battles of 1941 – 1945 war, which was one of the most bloodshed in the history of humanity.
On Memory Day, our people bows the heads in memory of courage of our heroic warriors, elders, women and children, who resisted to superior forces of enemy in their fight for independence of the Motherland. Recollecting the milestones of the heroic history, everyone of us pay tribute to courageous ancestors passing over the memory of feat of legendary heroes from generation to generation.
Unparalleled determination, loyalty to military duties, selfless love of the native land were demonstrated by thousands of our compatriots during battlefields of 1941 – 1945 war.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov laid flowers to «Baky şöhrat» monument, which is built in honour of Turkmenistan soldiers lost in the fight against fascism and heroes and heroes died in the battles for the independence of the Motherland.
After, Leaders of Mejlis, Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, hyakims of velayat and Ashgabat, leaders of military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, heads of diplomatic offices and missions accredited to Turkmenistan, representatives of non-government organizations, foreign companies, elders, youth, citizens and guests of Turkmen capital laid flowers to the monuments.
After the ceremony of laying flowers to the monuments, Leader of the Nation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and all participants went to special facility for sadaka.
Speaking to the participants, the Head of the State highlighted that Memory day is observed on this day every year. Following sacred traditions and humane principles of Turkmen people for remembrance of the deceased, we pay tribute to blessed memory of defenders of Gyoktepe Battle, heroes of the Motherland, who gave their lives at battlefields of all wars as well as victims of devastating Ashgabat earthquake in 1948.
In this relation, we held mourning ceremony in memorial complex, which is a symbol of high honour and respect of grateful descendants of outstanding heroism and courage of our brave ancestors. Our duty is not to forget ever those who was killed by merciless disaster, those who displayed outstanding fortitude, faithfulness to military duty, loyalty to the Motherland, - President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.
After, the Leader of the Nation gave floor to the Mufti of the country, who said “tebyarek” prayer, after which ritual meal was held. At its completion, “ayat-tovir” memorial service was given.prayer
