On the last day of September, the correspondent of the "Golden Age" “Золотой век” talked with the Chairman of the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan Vepa Myalikgulyev.

According to the head of the federation, since the end of the two-day International Chess Tournament for diplomats and their families, several chess events of various levels, both national and international, took place at once.

From 8^th to 14^th August, an international tournament organized by the Turkish Chess Federation called "2022 International Istanbul Chess Open" was held in Istanbul. Turkmen chess player Meylis Annaberdiyev also took part in the festival in category “A” among 71 athletes from 8 countries. Meylis won six games and played draw in three, thus gaining 7.5 points out of 9 possible, which allowed athlete from Ashgabat to win first place in the tournament.

On the Independence Day of our Homeland, September 27^th, the World Junior Chess Championship ended in the Georgian city of Batumi. Young Turkmen citizens also took part in it. The best result among the Turkmen chess players was achieved by Jahan Rejepova, who played in the age group up to 12 years. With 7 points out of 11 possible, Jahan ended up sharing 14^th-19^th places among 101 participating girls.

In other categories, our country was represented by Mahmut Meredov (in the age group up to 8 years old), Rauf Yusupov (in the group up to 10 years old), Gurbanmyrat Rustemov (up to 12 years old), Zalina Iminova (category of girls under 8 years old) and Nurana Soyunova (girls up to 10 years). All of them also performed well and showed good results. About 750 young masters of the intellectual game from 69 countries took part in the world championship, held under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

From September 24^th to September 26^th, a chess tournament among pupils of the school in rapid chess, dedicated to the 31^st anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan, was held in the capital's Chess and Checkers School. According to the results of the tournament, Arzygul Mahmudova gained 7 points out of 7 possible in the category of second-rank girls, Arslan Gurbanberdyev with 6 points out of 7 among second-rank boys, Meryem Agajanova with 4.5 points out of 7 among first-rank girls and Amanmukhammet Hommodov with 5 points out of 7 among first-rank boys.

At the end of the conversation, the Chairman of the Chess Federation expressed sincere gratitude to the esteemed President of Turkmenistan for the tireless assistance to the development of sports in Turkmenistan and congratulated all compatriots on the past holiday of independence of our native Fatherland.
