President of Turkmenistan and Governor of Astrakhan Region exchanged views on topical issues of bilateral cooperation

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to meet, the guest congratulates the head of state with the 25th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan addressing the wishes of happiness and prosperity to the Turkmen people.

As Zhilkin said he was very glad to visit Turkmenistan once again with which Astrakhan region has long-standing relations of friendship and fruitful partnership dynamically developing in the field of economic projects, and the humanitarian sphere.

Welcoming the guest, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasizes the traditionally friendly, good-neighborly nature of cooperation with the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation, originally built on the principles of mutual benefit and long term. The head of state notes that the development of effective direct contact with the regions and the leading industrial, educational and cultural centers of Russia is one of the key areas of intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian dialogue, received in the modern era, having got new incentives and significance.

During the meeting, President of Turkmenistan and Governor of Astrakhan Region exchanged views on topical issues of bilateral cooperation, focusing on priority areas such as trade and economy, transport and communication sectors.

As the guest states great prospects for expanding cooperation offer Turkmenistan's major international projects to create transnational transport and transit corridors, including in the direction of Iran, Afghanistan and India. At the same time it is expressed interest in the opening of the Astrakhan region the wholesale and logistics center for the promotion of Turkmen goods to the Russian market, as well as the establishment of direct air service between Ashgabat and Astrakhan. Zhilkin stresses, in general, that all this, of course, will intensify the productive economic and trade ties between the business circles of the two countries, as well as the development of tourist services, taking into account established on the coast of the Caspian Sea the national tourist zone "Avaza".

A special topic of discussion during the meeting is the intensification of the traditional cultural and humanitarian contacts, which are of great importance in view of the large Turkmen diaspora living in the Russian Federation.

In conclusion, the mutual confidence has been expressed that the friendly and neighborly relations between Turkmenistan and Astrakhan region will continue to be strengthened, contributing to the development of relations between the two nations.
