Turkmenistan won the first medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Bahrain

The Asian weightlifting championship, which started in the capital of Bahrain, brought the team of Turkmenistan the first medal in the biathlon - a bronze medal. It was won by 24-year-old Yulduz Dzhumabayeva, who in January last year the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) recognized as the winner of the 2018 Women's World Championship in the non-Olympic weight category up to 45 kg.

Initially, gold in this weight was won by Tunya Sukcharoen from Thailand. Later, the Thai athlete was disqualified and stripped of her medal for an anti-doping rule violation, which became known after rechecking the samples of athletes who competed at the 2018 World Cup in Ashgabat. As a result, Yulduz moved from second to first place.

In Manama, Yu. Dzhumabayeva competed in the Olympic weight category up to 49 kg, in which 10 athletes from 8 countries competed for medals.

In the snatch, out of three valid attempts, Yulduz used only one, showing the seventh result - 75 kg, and in the clean and jerk, having completed two approaches and lifting 97 kg, she became the bronze medalist.

In the sum of two exercises, Yulduz Dzhumabayeva gained 172 kg - 7 kg less than at the 2018 World Championships in Ashgabat and eventually took 3rd place. In the final protocol, she was 1 kg ahead of two weightlifters from India who shared 4-5 places and 9 kg behind the silver medalist Cheng Jin Lin from Taiwan - 181 kg (snatch - 79, clean and jerk - 102). The Asian champion with a result of 186 kg (81 + 105) was the representative of China, Wang Jiali.

At present, Yu. Jumabayeva combines weightlifting with the work of a coach at the 1st sports school of the Gurbansoltan eje etrap of the Dashoguz velayat.

The next set of awards at the Asian Championships was played by women in the weight category up to 55 kg, in which our country was represented by the vice world champion of 2017 in Anaheim (USA) Christina Shermetova.

The 29-year-old pupil of the participant of four Olympic Games Umurbek Bazarbaev in the snatch with a result of 83 kg shared 5-6th place with the representative of Thailand, and in the clean and jerk she could not take any of the three declared weights (104, 105 and 107 kg) and eventually completed the competition with zero rating.

In the men's weight category up to 61 kg, Turkmen weightlifter Ikhtiyor Matkerimov took 10th place with a result of 256 kg (116 + 140) among 15 athletes from 12 countries.

187 weightlifters (4 women and 103 men) from 30 countries compete for Asian Championship medals in ten men's and women's weight categories.

Turkmenistan is represented by 12 weightlifters at the continental championship - 4 in the women's competition program and 8 in the men's program.
