Eight medals were brought home from Turkey's Ankara by Turkmen weightlifters from the international tournament dedicated to the memory of the famous weightlifter Naim Suleymanoglu.
Three silver medals - in snatch, clean and jerk and biathlon - were awarded to Ogulgerek Amanova. She won this in the weight category up to 55 kg, in which only two athletes competed. In the snatch, our compatriot lifted 70 kg, in the clean and jerk - 85 kg, which amounted to 155 kg in total exercises.
Three medals - one silver and two bronze - were won by Atajan Dayiyev. This success was achieved by a 3rd year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports in the super heavy weight category over 109 kg, in which 4 athletes competed for awards. In the snatch A.Dayiyev showed the second result (156 kg), in the clean and jerk - the third (190 kg). He received the second bronze medal, gaining 346 kg in the biathlon - 24 kg less than at the junior world championship in Heraklion (Greece), where Atajan won bronze in the clean and jerk with a score of 208 kg.
Two more bronze medals in the clean and jerk (149 kg) and biathlon (274 kg) were brought to the team of Turkmenistan by Hydyrberdi Yagmyrov, who competed in the weight category up to 67 kg.
The next serious exam for Turkmen weightlifters will be the World Championship, which will be held from December 5 to 16, 2022 in Bogota (Colombia). This will be the first licensed competition for weightlifters en route to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
