Issues of dietary nutrition during diabetes mellitus, child obesity and methods of treatment of this disease as well as new Action Plan for food products for 2015 – 2020 and strategy of physical activity for European region were reviewed by participants of scientific and practical conference organized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan together with Regional office of the World Health Association.
Heads of medical facilities, endocrinologists, cardiologists and general practitioners of the capital and velayats clinics, leading scientists and lecturers of the State Medical University as well as experts of the Regional office of the WHO were the participants of the forum.
As is known, Turkmenistan pays great attention to the prevention of diseases. The treatment of the patients with diabetes is free of charge. The Government purchase insulin for Type I diabetes patients in Denmark and USA, besides, they receive insulin syringes, needles-pencils and needles. Government purchase of tableted medicines is carried out for patients with Type II diabetes. Diabetes schools, where specialists consult the diseased, teach them practical skills, principles of healthy nutrition, work and rest, work in medical facilities for targeted medical and preventative services.
Today, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry establish the database of the patients with diabetes. Register of each patient contains detailed information, which allows to track medical history of every diseased person.
Besides, scientific medical centres of Turkmenistan hold actual researches, develop wide international cooperation and exchange of practices with leading clinics and research centres of the world. Thus, International medical centre for protection of mother and child “Ene Myahri” together with leading German professors completed three scientific studies of gestational diabetes. This practice is included to initial examinations of pregnant women in order to prevent complications of gestational diabetes.
This work is undertaken under realization of Ashgabat Declaration of prevention and actions against non-communicable diseases. Preventative work, carried out by medical specialists of initial link of public health, is of a great importance in this context.
On the eve of the World Diabetes Day, all Houses of Health of the country held preventative action, which is summoned to attract attention of Turkmenistan citizens to importance of responsible attitude to own health. All participants were able to pass free medical test, to measure blood pressure, to give blood for analyses of sugar, to check Body Mass Index and other as well as receive qualified medical consultation of doctors on change of life style, daily meal, physical activity, giving up harmful habits.
