The men's and women's teams of Turkmenistan began their performance at the qualifying junior tournament (U-14) of the World Tennis Championship starting in Colombo (Sri Lanka) with a victory over the national teams of Macau. The competition is attended by representatives of 15 countries - Bangladesh, Indonesia, Yemen, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka and the team of the island states of Oceania.
As the correspondent of GA was informed in the National Tennis Federation, Turkmenistan at the ITF World Junior Tennis tournament for players under the age of 14 is represented by: the first numbers of Imran Akhundov and Ilim Guseynov, who train at the Ashgabat tennis academy under the guidance of Mirali Gasanov. In addition to I.Guseynova, the women's team included Nataliya Martynova (a pupil of Evgeny Molchanov) and a representative of the Lebap velayat Sabrina Rakhmanova (trained by Oksana Romanenko), and the men's team, in addition to I. Akhundov, included Selim Chagylov (a student of Jennet Hallyyeva) and Resul Mammetkurbanov (pupil of Ummarakhmat Hummetova).
The captain of the women's team is the first racket of Turkmenistan, Yuri Rogussky, and the captain of the men's team is the master of sports, judge of the national category Andrey Dovmatov. Igor Zubkov heads the delegation of Turkmenistan in Sri Lanka.
Qualifying participants are divided into four groups. The women's team of Turkmenistan, together with the national teams of Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia and Macau, formed group "B", and the men's team of Turkmenistan, together with rivals from Cambodia, Macau and Saudi Arabia, formed group "D".
Group winners will advance to the playoffs.
In the first round, both our teams beat Macau with the same score 3:0.
Ilima Huseynova didn't lose a single game to her rival Wu Hong - 6:0, 6:0. Natalia Martynova defeated Leong Emma Hoi Tung - 6:1, 6:1. And in the third meeting, Sabrina Rakhmanova, paired with Ilima Huseynova, defeated Wu Hong Tai and Leong Emma Hoi Tung - 6:0, 6:3.
Imran Akhundov defeated Chao Cheng Yu - 6:1, 6:3, Selim Chagylov defeated Ho Xi Long - 6:3, 6:0, and in the doubles match Imran Akhundov and Selim Chagylov were stronger than Chao Cheng Yu and Ho Xi Long - 6:1 6:2.
The ITF World Junior Tennis Under 14 Qualifier will end in Colombo on 18 February.
