The President of Turkmenistan receives the credentials of new Ambassador of Great Britain

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Turkmenistan Thorhilda Mary Vivia Abbott-Watt who presented the copies of her credentials.

Having expressed the gratitude for warm welcome and hospitality in Turkmen land, the diplomat conveyed cordial greetings of the Queen Elizabeth II who said about the importance that Great Britain pays to consolidation of friendship and cooperation with neutral independent Turkmenistan.

Having warmly welcomed the guest and congratulated on the start of her work in Ashgabat, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conveyed return best wishes to Her Majesty, the Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, having noted that Turkmenistan also pays special attention to the development of interstate dialog which is initially built on equality, mutual respect and interest.

During interested share of visions on current situation and perspectives of the intensification of Turkmen – British relations, the Head of Turkmenistan and plenipotentiary representative of Great Britain stated the level of constructive cooperation reached recently, which develops in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

Taking into account mutual interest of the sides to joint projects in key spheres, the focus of both countries on intensification of trade and economic cooperation, consolidation of interstate relations in innovative technology and humanitarian spheres, particularly in public health, science, culture and education, promotion of partnership, which enhanced by the signed Memorandum of Understanding between Turkmenistan the University of Cambridge, was confirmed. Great Britain express traditionally high interest to Turkmen ahalteke horses and other masterpieces of national culture. Large attention is also paid to cooperation in oil and gas sphere as well as in sport and tourism, which is currently vital due to preparation of Turkmenistan to forthcoming V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 2017.

Having expressed another gratitude for the opportunity of personal meeting and for wishes of successes in her work as a head of diplomatic mission of Great Britain in Turkmenistan, Thorhilda Mary Vivia Abbott-Watt assured the Head of the State that she would promote further intensive development of traditionally good relations and continue the course for comprehensive expansion of the partnership.
