It was traditionally opened by Ayaz Baba and his granddaughter Garpamyk, who arrived to coastal city accompanied by the heroes of favourite fairy tales and cartoons. After completion of colourful show in Turkmenbashy, Ayaz Baba with his escort went by speedboat to national tourist zone “Avaza”. Grey-bearded magician walked around all hotels and entertainment centres of Turkmen Riviera. Together with the citizens and guests of resort city, he took part in New Year trees lighting ceremony.

The baton of celebrations events was taken by pre-school facilities, educational and industrial organizations. Thousands of kids were involved in fairy tale show around beautiful New Year tree. The kids enthusiastically dance around with Ayaz Baba, Garpamyk, Yartygulak, Bevenjik, funny animals and other fairy tale heroes. The children read aloud the verses, sing songs, dance and receive gifts with sweets, fruits and prizes from Ayaz Baba.


In secondary comprehensive and professional schools and high educational facilities, New Year is celebrated with concerts, parties and sport competitions. Ceremonial meetings on results of the past year are held in organizations and departments.

Holiday score of 2017 includes concert programmes of popular bands and folklore bands, teachers and students of art school, professional musicians and singers. Theatre season dedicated to New Year was opened by “Magic Watch” music play, put on the stage of the oilmen’s Culture Palace by art studio of the Cultural and Sport Complex of Turkmenbashy Refinery Complex. Performances of the musical are sold out for every performance daily.
