Turkmenistan - Hungary: a new impetus in the development of cooperation

During the high-level meetings held within the framework of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban to Ashgabat, the prospects for further development of the Turkmen-Hungarian partnership in the widest range of areas of mutual interest were discussed. Emphasis was placed on further deepening and expanding the established productive joint activities in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Following the talks between the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, held in the Turkmen capital on the 9th of June, a solid package of bilateral documents was signed to give a new impetus to the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Hungary.

In particular, mutually emphasizing the importance of successful interaction and development of cooperation in the field of science and education, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of diplomatic training was signed between the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, the Agreement on Academic and scientific cooperation between the Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan and Semmelweis University, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation within the framework of the «Stipendium Hungaricum» program for 2024-2026 between the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

The new outlined prospects for the Turkmen-Hungarian partnership in the field of science and education are clear evidence of the mutual focus of the parties on further deepening the fruitful dialogue in this segment. During the talks, the importance of continuing the implementation of bilateral programs and projects aimed at achieving concrete results in the humanitarian direction was noted.

Speaking about cooperation in the field of education, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to Hungary for providing quotas for education of young Turkmen citizens in its leading higher educational institutions.

Continuing the theme of interaction in the humanitarian field, Prime Minister Viktor Orban noted that his country is sincerely glad that Turkmen students study in Hungarian universities. Confirming Hungary's desire to continue effective cooperation in this area, the head of the Government of the friendly state highly appreciated the proposals of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to study the Hungarian language in one of the higher educational institutions of our country and to hold cross Days of Culture.
