Turkmen athletes won four bronze medals at the international tournament "Grand Prix" in sambo for the Cup of the Governor of the Krasnodar region, which ended in Krasnodar.

The competition brought together over 100 representatives from Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, who contested the awards in seven weight categories in sport and combat sambo.

Veniamin Kondratiev, Governor of Kuban, took part in the event. He noted that sambo unites athletes and strengthens their spirit.

Turkmenistan was represented at the tournament by seven sambists, four of whom made it to the third step of the podium.

According to the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Physical Culture and Sport, Abdulla Babayev (up to 71 kg weight category), coach of the 9th sports school of Ashgabat Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports, held two duels on the way to the bronze success. In the first, he beat Alexander Durymanov (Russian Federation), and in the second one he lost to Rustam Taldiyev from Russia.

The other three medalists: Vyacheslav Ishkhanyan(up to 88 kg), a student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, Bezirgen Begenchev (up to 98 kg), a 3rd–year student of the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics of Turkmenistan and Charymyrat Annagurbanov (over 98 kg), the employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan lost in the first round to Russians Said Saidov, Abdulkhalim Javakhanov and Oleg Kurbanov and were awarded bronze medals.

Russian sambo wrestlers took the lead in the team competition, winning 40 medals (13 gold, 10 silver, 17 bronze). The athletes from Armenia were second. Representatives of Azerbaijan closed the top three.
