President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the 16th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Tashkent, called on the ECO to create Joint Transport and Logistics Centres.
«It is obvious that our economic partnership will develop successfully and in fact become effective in the presence of modern transport and communication networks that include the entire ECO space», –noted the head of Turkmenistan.
According to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the importance of Eurasian transport corridors as a driving force for the prosperity of the entire continent is clearly confirmed and increased, and the ECO is given one of the key places in this work.
The head of state especially emphasized that therefore the construction of roads, bridges, hubs, warehouses, terminals and other structures is one of the main areas of cooperation.
«From a practical point of view, we propose to consider the issue of creating Joint transport and logistics centers with the participation of relevant government bodies and private companies», –said the President of Turkmenistan.
The head of the Turkmen state noted that he believes that one of the priority areas for discussion in the future is the establishment of multimodal cargo transportation from China through Central Asia with access to the ports of the Caspian Sea, the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea.
The President of Turkmenistan also emphasized the importance for the ECO of implementing targeted and coordinated transport diplomacy in the international arena, developing partnerships with the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and international and regional transport organizations.
