Serdar Atayev, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and Head of the Turkmenistan Kurash Federation, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Statistics Committee of the International Kurash Association (IKA). His candidacy was unanimously voted for by the 53 delegates of the IKA congress, which was held in the conference hall of the "Sport" hotel in the Olympic Village.

Turkmenistan's representative is elected for the first time to the International Kurash Association, which unites 118 national federations from Asia (32), Africa (22), Europe (33), North and South America (22), and Oceania (9).

Serdar Atayev, 44 years old, has been serving as the Acting Chairman of the Turkmenistan Kurash Federation since February 23, 2022, and the federation will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year. It was established in December 2014.

After the acceptance of the Turkmenistan Kurash Federation into the corresponding International Kurash Association (IKA) and the Kurash Confederation of Asia and Oceania (KCAO) in 2015, Turkmen masters of this style of wrestling started participating in world championships and other major international competitions. Prior to the current world championship in Ashgabat, our compatriots took part in four world kurash championships in Iran, Turkey, the Republic of Korea, and India, where they stood on the podium of honor 21 times, winning a total of 2 gold, 7 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
