Over 1800 students representing 30 general education schools throughout Turkmenistan attended a series of health education sessions on immunization and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The training was conducted by 20 family doctors and immunologists who underwent a special course by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The sessions were organized by the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat, Balkanabat, Turkmenbashy, Dashoguz, Kunya Urgench, Mary, Bayramaly, Turkmenabat and Kerki.

The event aimed to raise awareness of schoolchildren about infectious diseases, the importance of vaccination, and to instill healthy habits in their daily lives. The students were also introduced to the concept of the digital module "Immune Patrol," developed by the WHO for secondary school students to strengthen their knowledge on immunization and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Participants of the sessions received memorable gifts from the WHO.

In 2024, the World Health Organization will continue to engage Turkmen youth in addressing health issues as part of the Youth4Health (Youth for Health), a special initiative of the WHO Regional Director for Europe.
